The codebook includes a plurality of codewords, each codeword being a vector including a plurality of symbols, each symbol to be transmitted over resources of the wireless communication network. The encoder is configured to receive an information message to be transmitted to a receiver of the wireless communication network, to select from the codebook the codeword associated with the received information message, and to divide the selected codeword into a plurality of sub-codewords.

The encoder receives a data element to be transmitted to a receiver of the wireless communication network, and maps the data element to a codeword obtained by selecting at least one vector from a unique set of vectors. The unique set of vectors is exclusively assigned to the transmitter, and each vector includes a plurality of symbols. Each symbol is to be transmitted over a resource element of the wireless communication network.

The device and method are particularly suitable for massive Multiple Input Multiple Output (MIMO) scenarios, and are particularly applicable to Frequency-Division Duplexing (FDD) systems. The device includes a processor configured to compute an angular power spectrum (APS) of an antenna array, in particular in the continuous angular domain, based on the UL covariance matrix of a communication channel and an UL response of the antenna array. Further, the processor is configured to compute the DL covariance matrix of the communication channel based on the APS and a DL response of the antenna array. The base station device includes the device and the antenna array.
