  • Publication number: 20130199094
Abstract: A controlled gate system for use in a restricted passage having an entry end and an exit end is described. The system comprises a barrier gate secured to a pivotal support assembly at the exit end to permit the barrier gate to pivot from a closed position, obstructing the restricted passage, to an open position, outwardly of the restricted passage to permit entry into an establishment. An electrically actuable brake, arrests the gate at the closed position and it is deactivated by a detector activated by a person at the entry end. An electromagnetic arresting mechanism is provided to disconnect the barrier gate from the electrically actuable brake to permit the barrier gate to swing freely within and out of the passage to provide for evacuation in emergency situations.

  • Patent number: 8112938
Abstract: A controlled gate system is comprised of a barrier arm which is pivotally connected to a first fixed support. A motion detector is secured to a second fixed support spaced a predetermined distance from the first fixed support and in alignment therewith to create a restricted passageway with the barrier arm normally resting in an obstructing position within the passageway. The barrier arm is arrested at the obstructing position by a solenoid actuated latch which is disengaged by the motion detector. The arc of displacement of the barrier arm is also restricted to permit passage through the passageway in a single direction. Under certain conditions a controller will permit the barrier arm to be disengaged to permit passage in the passageway in opposed directions. The motion detector of the preferred embodiment is constituted by a further barrier arm.

  • Patent number: 6650248
Abstract: A method, apparatus, and system for allowing a user to program a universal remote control transmitter device by presenting interactive display menus or voice prompts within a first synchronized remote controllable appliance such as a television, whereby a user can easily program the remote control device to control desired types, brands, and models of additional, different appliances.

  • Patent number: 6549143
Abstract: A remote controllable device, apparatus or appliance such as a television is adapted to receive control signals from a universal remote control device addressed to a different appliance, i.e., when said appliance has not been selected, and informs the user that said appliance is not selected. Preferably the appliance displays information as to which other appliance has been selected, for example the TV could display on its screen the fact that it is receiving a remote control signal pertaining to a VCR by saying “VCR selected” when it receives a VCR control signal.

  • Patent number: 6529556
Abstract: An apparatus and a method for providing remote control capability involves transmitting IR and RF signals in a time multiplexed manner. The present apparatus comprises an input device, an IR signal transmitter, a RF signal transmitter and a controller operatively coupled to the input device, the IR signal transmitter and the RF signal transmitter. The controller generates and applies the IR and RF signals to the respective signal transmitters in time multiplexed manner. The IR and RF signals may be transmitted using different protocols without significantly increasing the computing capacity of the controller as compared to a controller of a remote control device which transmits only one type of remote control signal.
