  • Patent number: 6454930
Abstract: A procedure and a device for the electroerosive or electrochemical machining of bent surfaces of a work piece (2) by means of an electrode (1; 1′; 1″) which is generally independent of the form of the bent surface, in which the electrode (1; 1′; 1″) is led for the machining of the bent surface along a forward feed device (V) above the work piece surface. The invention is distinguished by the fact that the electrode (1; 1′; 1″) is led across the work piece surface at an inclined angle to the forward feed device (V) with the forward feed device (V) placed tangentially to the work piece surface.

  • Patent number: 5874703
Abstract: A method and apparatus for electroerosive machining (i.e. electric discharge machining) of workpieces is accomplished by supplying pulses of varying polarity to the gap between an electrode and a workpiece. Instead of a pause between pulses of the same polarity, the pulse generator inserts a pulse of reverse polarity whose duration is selected so that removal is at a maximum rate and wear of the electrode is still permissible. The reverse polarity pulses themselves cause machining of the workpiece. A fuzzy logic controller is used to optimize the pulse duration of successive pulses.

  • Patent number: 5824986
Abstract: The excursion (a) of a wire electrode (10) is held constant at a pre-set value during the machining operation. The forward feed rate of an X/Y drive (24), the pulse frequency of the machining pulse or a combination of both these erosion parameters are preferably selected as a regulated quantity for effecting the wire excursion (a).

  • Patent number: 5565115
Abstract: An electric discharge machine is shown with a work piece (4) inside a hermetically closed container (13) having a dielectric capable of being supplied and removed in particular under pressure, the container (12) has at least two parts (6, 14a, 14b, 14c) capable of sliding on each other. In particular, the parts are designated as telescopically nestable rings (14). At least two parts are further interconnectable and detachable from each other by a quick acting system.

  • Patent number: 5506382
Abstract: Apparatus and cathode for and method of electro-erosive cutting. The cathode is in the form of a wire, especially a round wire. The wire travels over at least two wire guides. A wire-shaping assembly cross-sectionally shapes the round wire just before it starts to cut. A wire-rotating assembly rotates the wire around the latter's longitudinal axis.

  • Patent number: 5444204
Abstract: An electro-erosion apparatus for the machining of workpieces with a work ruble for the resting thereon of a workpiece, a first machining head, at last two degree of from of the movement of the apparatus in and/or parallel to the principal working place of the workpiece (X/Y-plane) as well as at least one additional degree of from of the movement perpendicular to the principle working place (Z-axis), which has at least one additional machining head which is fastened on the first machining head (FIG. 4 ).

  • Patent number: 5434379
Abstract: Apparatus for and method of electro-erosive cutting with a cathode in the form of a wire. The wire advances through at least one or two guides, especially open V-grooved guides that do not surround the wire. One wire guide is upstream and the other downstream, in the direction the wire advances along, of the workpiece being processed. The wire guide or guides can rotate around the wire.

  • Patent number: 5324909
Abstract: An apparatus for measuring and/or controlling the tension in a ribbon or wire-type electrode of an electric discharge machine in which the ribbon or wire-type electrode is passed around a rotatable roller which is in operative engagement with a sensor. The roller is adapted to be driven in rotation by a motor or to be retarded by a brake. A support member for the roller and the motor or for the roller and the brake accommodates the weight of the roller and the motor or of the roller and the brake so that no load caused by the motor or the brake plus the roller acts in the direction of the tensile stress of the electrode. Any movement of the support means can be detected by a sensor, and the magnitude of the tension can be derived by a control unit from the output signal of the sensor. In operation, the control unit determines the tension on the wire and causes the unit to either increase or decrease the resistance caused by the roller.

  • Patent number: 4778973
Abstract: A wire guidance arrangement for guiding a wire electrode of a spark erosion machine has several replaceable wire guides, which are mutually spaced to thereby form individual erosion zones. The individual wire guides are held by spring tension in corresponding openings of a guide plate, which rest on a base block. The common plane of the guide plate and the base block forms a reference plane on which are axially centered the undersides of wire guidance members of the individual wire guides. Even in the case of a greater wire electrode fixing length, this always ensures a satisfactory guidance of the wire electrode. In addition, the individual wire guides can be simply replaced without any adjustment being necessary.

  • Patent number: 4751364
Abstract: Wire cutting apparatus which includes a mechanism for conveying an electrode and cutting device having rotary cutting elements and a tender tool. A post generator is electrically connected to the cutting elements and the counter tool for purposes of supplying power to the spark erosion machine. The cutting elements are electrically insulated with respect to the drive shaft thereof and the service of the counter tool is electrically insulated relative to the mounting support thereof. Additionally, there is provided an electrical connection which constantly forces the rotary cutting elements and the counter tool to the electrical potential of the electrode.

  • Patent number: 4678885
Abstract: A circuit arrangement for producing machining pulses in a spark erosion installation from a direct current power source that functions without the use of ballast resistors. There are at least two controllable circuits which are parallel to the spark gap and to one another and whose output currents are additively superimposed for a total current flowing through the spark gap. The control inputs of the circuits are connected to a control circuit, which produces time-associated control signals, the nature of the time circuit cooperates with the control elements of the circuits, so that a current pulse is only allowed to pass to the spark gap if the switches controlled by the control elements are simultaneously open.
