Patent number: 7045201Abstract: The invention relates to treatment of yarns for use in reinforcement of rubber products. Such treatment comprises application to the yarn of an aqueous emulsion of polyester and/or epoxy adhesive, or an aqueous alkaline dispersion of rubber latex and resorcinol-formaldehyde resin adhesive, wherein said adhesive contains a minor amount of particulate, water insoluble starch composite of starch and water insoluble plasticizer therefor. Such yarns may be in a form of a cord comprised of a plurality of yarns. The invention further relates to such treated yarns. The invention additionally relates to such treated yarns and a composite of rubber and said treated yarns. The invention additionally relates to an article of manufacture such, as for example, a rubber tire, having at least one component comprised of said composite.Type: GrantFiled: May 14, 2003Date of Patent: May 16, 2006Assignee: The Goodyear Tire & Rubber CompanyInventors: Filomeno Gennaro Corvasce, Serge Julien Auguste Imhoff, Rene Francois Reuter

Patent number: 6951139Abstract: A stress sensor includes two capacitor plates held in a spaced-apart relationship by a connector block situated therebetween. The connector block includes a plurality of rods protruding from opposite connector block sides and extending into a respective capacitor plate to attach peripheral portions of each capacitor plate to the connector block. A small air gap is maintained between peripheral portions of the capacitor plates by the inclusion of a spacer member. Terminal end portions of the protruding rods are deformed such as by the application of heat over an outer surface of the capacitor plates to retain the capacitor plates in a fixed mutual relationship. The terminal end portions of the rods further serve to prevent horizontal or vertical slippage between the capacitor plates when the sensor is vulcanized into rubber compounds such as in a tire.Type: GrantFiled: December 5, 2003Date of Patent: October 4, 2005Assignee: The Goodyear Tire & Rubber CompanyInventors: Rene Francois Reuter, Claude Ernest Félix Boes, Peter Phelps Roch, Rene Jean Zimmer, Damian Georges

Publication number: 20040261928Abstract: The present invention is directed to a runflat tire having at least one of its components comprising the radial carcass ply, the underlay, the overlay, the bead inserts or the chippers, reinforced with polyester cords having a polyepoxide disposed on its surface. The polyester cord is formed by first obtaining a cord through twisting together a plurality of polyester yarns, secondly treating the cord with an aqueous dispersion comprising a polyepoxide, and thirdly treating the cord with an aqueous RFL dispersion comprising a resorcinol-formaldehyde resin, a styrene-butadiene copolymer latex, a vinylpyridine-styrene-butadiene terpolymer latex, and a blocked isocyanate.Type: ApplicationFiled: June 27, 2003Publication date: December 30, 2004Inventors: Serge Julien Auguste Imhoff, Mustafa Goksoy, Rene Francois Reuter, Yves Donckels, Frank Philpott

Patent number: 6799618Abstract: A pneumatic tire (10) comprises a radial ply (12) carcass, a tread portion disposed radially outwardly of the crown area (14) of the carcass and a crown reinforcing structure interposed between the tread portion (19) and the carcass. The crown reinforcing structure includes a belt assembly (15) having at least a first (16), radially innermost and a second (17), radially outermost belt ply as well as a textile overlay structure (18) which is superimposed radially outwardly to said belt assembly (15). The textile overlay structure is reinforced with cords (40, 51) being made of materials including nylon and aramid. At initial elongation of the cords, the primary load bearing yarns are the nylon yarns; after appreciable elongation the primary load bearing yarns are the aramid yarns.Type: GrantFiled: December 18, 2002Date of Patent: October 5, 2004Assignee: The Goodyear Tire & Rubber CompanyInventors: René François Reuter, Frank Schmitz, Serge Julien Auguste Imhoff, Yves Donckels
