  • Publication number: 20080030586
Abstract: Optical motion sensing systems and methods are described. In one aspect, light from subfields of a scene is focused onto respective capture areas of a focal plane. Successive sets of contemporaneous local images are captured from the focused light. Respective saliency measures are derived from respective ones of the local images. Respective local motion measures are determined from comparisons of corresponding ones of the local images in ones of the contemporaneous local image sets. A respective global motion measure is produced for each of the contemporaneous local image sets based on the respective ones of the local motion measures and the respective ones of the saliency measures.

  • Publication number: 20080030587
Abstract: Still image apparatus and methods that are suitable for compact camera environments are described. In another aspect, image segments are captured during corresponding exposure intervals of a frame exposure period. Respective motion sensor signals are generated during the respective exposure intervals of the image segments. One or more corresponding movement measures are determined from the respective motion sensor signals for each of the exposure intervals. The image segments are combined into an output image based on the one or more corresponding movement measures.

  • Publication number: 20080030458
Abstract: An apparatus includes an inertia sensing system, an optical motion sensing system, and a processing system. The inertia sensing system generates inertial data indicative of movement in relation to an inertial reference frame. The optical motion sensing system generates optical data from received light. The processing system determines movement measures from the inertial data. The processing system also select one of an in-motion output state and a motionless output state based on the optical data. During the in-motion output state, the processing system produces an output corresponding to the movement measures. During the motionless output state, the processing system produces an output indicative of zero motion regardless of the inertial data.

  • Patent number: 7286771
Abstract: The multi-channel optical transmitter is composed of a tunable optical signal source, an optical multiplexer and an intensity reducer. The tunable optical signal source includes a tunable laser, and additionally includes an optical signal output through which it outputs an optical signal to one of the inputs of the optical multiplexer. The intensity reducer is for reducing the intensity of the optical signal output by the optical signal source during tuning of the tunable laser. The intensity reducer prevents the tunable optical signal source from injecting high levels of noise into the channels during tuning of the tunable optical signal source.
