  • Publication number: 20230265877
Abstract: A screw having the following successive functional sections: a threaded tip (150) shaped as a cone (A) having a double thread; a milling section (B) having a plurality of milling ribs (160) with outer diameter DF; a cylindrical shank section having the main thread with diameter DN; a thread-free shank section (D); optionally a holding thread section (E); optionally a short thread-free underhead section (F); and a head section (G) having a force engagement. The main thread (110) is guided continuously from the tip section (190) of the cone (A) via the milling section (B) to the head end of the thread-bearing shank section (C) and the ribs of the milling section (B) are arranged recessed in the thread base (140) of the continuous main thread such that the thread tips of the continuous main thread with nominal outer diameter DB project beyond the milling ribs, so that DF<DB.

  • Patent number: 5886694
Abstract: A computer-based method of sizing and positioning controls within a window is disclosed. The method divides a window, and in particular a dialog window, into rectangular regions, referred to as frames. A logical description of the relative positions and sizes of the controls and frames within the dialog window is specified. The method automatically determines the coordinates of each control and positions the controls accordingly during execution of the computer program that is displaying the dialog window. The method is performed in two stages: a specification stage and a layout stage. In the specification stage, a dialog window is subdivided into multiple nested rectangular frames. The set of frames for a dialog window forms a hierarchical tree of frames. In the layout stage, the method traverses the tree of frames twice. The first traversal of the frame tree occurs in postorder sequence, and determines the minimum required size of each frame.

  • Patent number: 5318616
Abstract: A piston rod of a piston and cylinder device has an axial bore through which a fixed non-ferromagnetic monitoring member extends, and a detection insert of ferromagnetic materially extending generally axially of the monitoring member. A magnetic circuit is created through a base of the cylinder, a sidewall, the piston and the detection insert, and movement of the piston is detected by a Hall sensor which detects a change of flux in the magnetic circuit.

  • Patent number: 5006133
Abstract: A method and apparatus for deoxidation of water uses a catalytic combustion chamber in which a fuel having a low ignition temperature is first delivered during a start-up phase in order to begin ignition. The fuel used for start-up may, for example, be vaporized methanol or hydrogen. After an interval of time, the fuel supplied is continuously throttled and, at the same time, an operational fuel having a higher ignition temperature is supplied in increasing quantities until the stripping gas reaches a required temperature. On completion of the start-up phase, only the operational fuel which consists of, or least contains natural gas as a component, is then fed to the catalytic combustion process.

  • Patent number: 4937004
Abstract: The method for the deoxidation of chlorinated water, more particularly sea water, by means of a low oxygen content stripping gas, comprises a closed circuit in which a liquid absorbent circulates. For dechlorination, the liquid absorbent is brought into contact in an absorption column with the stripping gas charged with oxygen and chlorine. The absorbent is of a nature not to absorb at least one of the components comprising carbon dioxide, oxygen and hydrocarbons, and is fed to the absorption column by a pump from a reservoir in the circuit.

  • Patent number: 4649503
Abstract: The inspection apparatus comprises scanning means and processing means operative to produce a lean signal which indicates how much an article moving on a conveyor leans from the vertical. Comparing means is operative to compare the lean signal with a first preselected standard and a second preselected standard which is lower than the first preselected standard. If the first standard is exceeded, the article is rejected by first rejecting means and, if the second standard is exceeded the article may be rejected by second rejecting means downstream of the first after further information has been obtained about the article from inspection devices, or the second standard may be used to provide an indication of a trend towards leaning.

  • Patent number: 4610712
Abstract: In the closing action of the mould, pulses are produced which represent the movement of a mould portion in the closing action. The number of pulses produced between a fixed position and the mould closed position is counted and compared with the greatest number of pulses previously counted for the corresponding movement. If the two numbers differ by a predetermined number, a stop signal is produced which presents further closing actions of the mould.

  • Patent number: 4606746
Abstract: The positions of movable side portions (12,14) of a mould are monitored to determine whether the side portions reach their mould-closed condition. Ultrasonic radiation is transmitted from a first source (22) so that it is reflected by a first of the mould portions (12) to a first detector. Ultrasonic radiation is also transmitted from a second source (24) so that it is transmitted from the second mould portion (14) to a second detector. A signal is produced which is indicative of the time taken by the radiation to travel from the first source to the first detector plus the time taken by the radiation to travel from the second source to the second detector and the signal is compared with a standard representing the expected time for the radiation travel when the side portions are in their closed condition.

  • Patent number: 4604122
Abstract: Gobs of molten glass are sensed as they pass along a path (12) which leads to a mold arrangement (10) of a glassware forming machine. Ultrasonic radiation is transmitted towards a point on the path so that the radiation is reflected by the gob to a detector (30). One or more parameters of the radiation detected are compared with an equal number of expected parameters for the radiation and a signal indicating the presence of a gob is produced if the or each parameter is consistent with its equivalent expected parameter.

  • Patent number: 4582522
Abstract: The method is for monitoring the movement of a member which is moved along a path which has a vertical component and an arcuate component about a vertical axis. The movement is brought about by a piston movable in a cylinder and having a piston rod projecting therefrom on which the member is mounted. A cam which engages a cam track is mounted on the piston rod or a further piston rod of the piston and acts to cause the arcuate movement. The method comprises mounting a proximity detector on the cam track to sense the piston rod, connecting the proximity detector to a contactless connector so that signals are passed from the mechanism to a transmitter of the connector mounted on the machine frame, and comparing signals received by the transmitter with signals indicating the stage reached in the cycle of operation.

  • Patent number: 4201338
Abstract: The identification of a mold in which a vessel made from an optically transparent material has been molded. The vessel is provided with a plurality of marks disposed about a path on the wall of the vessel. There is a first set of marks disposed above the path and a second set disposed below the path. One of the first or second sets contains code marks for providing an indication of the mold and the other set contains timing marks suitable for the sequential reading of the code marks. The marks are illuminated by a light path as the vessel is moved and the diffraction or reflection of the light caused by the marks is evaluated. Time impulses are generated in response to the evaluation of the timing marks for sequential reading of the code marks.
