  • Patent number: 5833007
Abstract: A method of farming comprises collecting waste material such as manure from animal farming, or effluent from food processing plants or the like in a closed container, stirring and aerating the material within the container and adding yeast and phosphoric acid to increase aerobic bacterial activity while reducing anaerobic bacteria and rendering the material into a pumpable liquid. The collected manure is stored in a cylindrical container having a plastics liner and roof and is used as a fire suppressant material for dowsing fires in the farm buildings by providing a pump and hose on the container or hydrant located adjacent to the buildings.

The material is then spread across the ground by a spreading action by pumping the material through a pipe carried on the reel of a vehicle having a boom of the order of 100 feet in width so that the material is sprayed onto the ground in an even spreading action at a rate of the order of 1000 to 5000 gallons per acre. Simultaneously an oxidizing agent such as hydrogen peroxide is sprayed onto the material, preferably immediately before the material.

  • Patent number: 5499493
Abstract: A picking system for cranberries or similar small berries carried on vines lying across the ground includes a plurality of tines arranged as an array across the picking system transverse to the direction of movement. The tines include a vertical portion, a curved section and a horizontal front portion projecting forwardly. The tines are reciprocated by a cam action behind the vertical portion. Each tine has a vertical slot along its center line through which passes a stationary blade with a hooked upper end so that the movement of the tine provides a scissors action with the stationary blade. A suction duct is positioned directly above the horizontal front portion to draw the collected berries vertically upwardly for collection. An air jet nozzle is positioned at the front of the suction duct with an air jet projecting downwardly and rearwardly to hold berries onto the horizontal portion.

  • Patent number: 5076047
Abstract: A cranberry harvester has a array of vertically oscillatable tines extending forward and over a ground roller. The roller pulls the vines through the tine array, stripping the berries, without damaging the vines or jamming the tines. Round upwardly curved tapered tines pivoted on a transverse bar are independently oscillated by a transverse camshaft to disentangle the vines effectively. Fruit is removed through a suction duct to a storage bin. The cranberry harvester is conveniently mounted on either a center articulated self propelled chassis, or a unitary self propelled chassis.
