  • Publication number: 20070017620
Abstract: A pneumatic tire has a single carcass ply, at least one belt ply disposed radially outward of the carcass ply in a crown portion of the tire, and at least one insert located adjacent the carcass ply in a sidewall portion, the insert providing support for the tire load to enable the tire to operate in underinflated conditions. The carcass ply is comprised of at least one composite cord. The composite cord is formed of at least two first yarns twisted helically about at least one second yarn. The first yarns and the second yarn having different modulus of elasticity, the first yarns having a modulus greater than the modulus of the second yarn.

  • Publication number: 20060033231
Abstract: The present invention is directed to a method for producing a reinforced rubber component, comprising the steps of: melt spinning a thermoplastic polymer to produce a first stage monofilament; immediately after the step of melt spinning, quenching the first stage monofilament in at least one liquid comprising an adhesive to produce a second stage monofilament having said adhesive dispersed on a surface thereof; after said quenching, subjecting the second stage monofilament to at least one additional step selected from the group consisting of drying, drawing, heat treating, and surface treating to produce a 2000 to 10,000 decitex monofilament; and contacting the 2000 to 10,0000 decitex monofilament with a rubber composition to form a reinforced rubber component.

  • Publication number: 20050133137
Abstract: Disclosed is a tire having at least one reinforcing ply in the carcass, belt, or bead region of the tire. The reinforcing ply is comprised of a blended fiber cord. The cords, in combination with a preferred cure temperature adhesive, achieve a high degree of thermal stability allowing for the use of such cords in various reinforcing plies for a pneumatic tire and for preferred use for such cords in areas of the tire subject to high temperatures either in curing or performance.

  • Publication number: 20050120801
Abstract: A stress sensor includes two capacitor plates held in a spaced-apart relationship by a connector block situated therebetween. The connector block includes a plurality of rods protruding from opposite connector block sides and extending into a respective capacitor plate to attach peripheral portions of each capacitor plate to the connector block. A small air gap is maintained between peripheral portions of the capacitor plates by the inclusion of a spacer member. Terminal end portions of the protruding rods are deformed such as by the application of heat over an outer surface of the capacitor plates to retain the capacitor plates in a fixed mutual relationship. The terminal end portions of the rods further serve to prevent horizontal or vertical slippage between the capacitor plates when the sensor is vulcanized into rubber compounds such as in a tire.
