  • Patent number: 8123971
Abstract: The invention relates to composites made of an elastic carrier medium comprising polynorbornene (PNR) and magnetisable particles which are polarized reversibly in a magnetic field. Thus the mechanical properties, such as e.g. storage modulus G? (describes the elastic behavior or the energy storage) and loss modulus G? (describes the viscous behavior or the energy dissipation), of such elastomer composites can be increased rapidly and reversibly within wide limits (up to approx. two orders of magnitude) as a function of an external magnetic field. Wide-ranging application possibilities are produced herefrom, e.g. for adaptive damping systems, in which the damping force can be adjusted via the strength of the magnetic field.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: April 10, 2007
Date of Patent: February 28, 2012
Assignee: Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft zur Förderung der angewandten Forschung e.V.
Inventors: Holger Böse, Rene' Röder, Nikolaus Rennar
  • Patent number: 7608197
Abstract: The present invention relates to magnetorheological elastomers comprising at least one non-magnetizable elastomeric carrier medium and magnetizable particles contained therein and also to the use thereof. In the case of MREs of this type, the mechanical properties, such as the rigidity modulus, can be changed reversibly by an applied magnetic field.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: August 25, 2005
Date of Patent: October 27, 2009
Assignee: Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft zur Forderung der Angewandten Forschung e.V.
    Inventors: Holger Böse, Rene Röder

  • Publication number: 20090039309
Abstract: Magnetorheological elastomer composites comprising at least one thermoplastic elastomer which forms a thermoplastic matrix and magnetisable particles which are contained therein, the elastomer matrix containing at least 10% by weight of plasticiser, relative to the thermoplastic elastomer.
