Patent number: 8335022Abstract: A method for automatically determining a position of an address field on a document comprising: scanning a face of the envelope provided with the window so as to obtain scan-data representing an image of the scanned face of the envelope; comparing the scan-data with characteristics indicative of a human-readable address; selecting a subset of the scan-data meeting characteristics of human-readable address; determining the position of markings represented by the selected subset of the scan-data; and calculating the position of an address field on the document from data representing at least the position of the selected subset of the scan-data on the envelope face and a clearance or clearance range between the document and the envelope.Type: GrantFiled: March 8, 2012Date of Patent: December 18, 2012Assignee: Neopost TechnologiesInventor: Rene van den Berg

Publication number: 20110184552Abstract: A method for preparing a batch of mail pieces includes transporting postal items from at least one feeding station to an inserting station and inserting the postal items into envelopes. If a control logic detects a signal representing a disturbance of the transportation of at least one of the postal items, in response to that detection, the control logic automatically generates an error report representing information regarding the detected disturbance of postal items. The error report includes batch preparation data representing at least one predetermined processing feature applicable to the preparation of the batch of mail pieces. The error report is stored to be made available for service and support.Type: ApplicationFiled: January 24, 2011Publication date: July 28, 2011Applicant: NEOPOST TECHNOLOGIESInventor: René VAN DEN BERG

Patent number: 7832719Abstract: Between a document feeding device and a document processing device, documents are received in a sequential order in a buffer station, temporarily stored in a transport path and delivered in the order of receipt. The transport of the documents in a collecting portion of the transport path is controlled separately from the transport of the documents in a delivery portion of the transport path. After delivery of a single or last document present in the delivery portion from the delivery portion, and before the piece-by-piece delivery of documents of a next group from the delivery portion is started, the next group of documents collected in the collecting portion is passed on to the delivery portion. A buffer station for practicing the method is also described.Type: GrantFiled: June 25, 2007Date of Patent: November 16, 2010Assignee: Neopost Technologies SAInventor: René Van Den Berg

Patent number: 6877743Abstract: This invention relates to a document accumulation device comprising an accumulation receptacle provided with a mobile accumulation guide for receiving a bundle of documents to be folded and drive means constituted by a motor roller driven in rotation by motor means and associated with a free counter-roller adapted to pivot about a pivot pin, in order, on the one hand, to drive and align these documents one after the other against the accumulation guide and, on the other hand, thereafter to eject in one go the bundle of documents thus formed by accumulation in said receptacle, this device further comprising displacement means, constituted by an electro-magnet of which the core having two positions of displacement is connected to a piece supporting said free counter-roller, in order to position these drive means, on the one hand, in a first position in which they are subjected to a rathermore weak drive effort to ensure drive and alignment of the documents and, on the other hand, in a second position in which tType: GrantFiled: January 29, 2003Date of Patent: April 12, 2005Assignee: Neopost IndustrieInventors: René Van Den Berg, Herve Duval

Patent number: 6338479Abstract: In the in-line processing of flat objects (S1-S7), the flat objects (S1-S7) are fed from a device (4) and serially transferred to a downstream system (5). In the system (5) the objects (S1-S7) are transported and, if necessary, temporarily collected. The temporary collection of specimens of the objects (S1-S7) occurs in a configuration with a pitch in the direction of transport which is smaller than the dimensions in the direction of transport of the objects (S1-S7) in question. Then collected objects (S1-S7) are moved away from each other, from that configuration, and further transported with mutual interspaces. Because the flat objects (S1-S7) are stored with a pitch less than the size in the direction of transport, a large number of objects (S1-S7) can be collected in a buffer portion (34, 35; 134; 234) of a small length. Because the objects (S1-S7) are stored with a pitch in the direction of transport, however, they can be readily moved away from each other.Type: GrantFiled: December 31, 1998Date of Patent: January 15, 2002Assignee: Neopost B.V.Inventors: Jeichienus Adriaan Van Der Werff, René Van Den Berg
