  • Publication number: 20220162663
Abstract: A method of identifying a Mycobacterium using surface enhanced Raman spectroscopy (SERS), disclosed herein, comprises disposing a sample suspected to comprise a Mycobacterium on a SERS-active substrate, detecting surface enhanced Raman signals corresponding to an alpha-mycolic acid, a methoxy-mycolic acid, and a keto-mycolic acid from the sample disposed on the SERS-active substrate, and determining one or more ratios of intensity of the surface enhanced Raman signals to identify the Mycobacterium. Disclosed herein also includes a method of detecting a mycobacterial disease using surface enhanced Raman spectroscopy (SERS), the method comprising identifying a Mycobacterium according to the method described above, and determining the mycobacterial disease based on the Mycobacterium identified.

  • Publication number: 20130309626
Abstract: A method for design of a series of custom composite orthodontic wires comprises collecting data about an initial teeth configuration of a patient and generating a tooth movement plan. The tooth movement plan comprises determining both a bracket mounting location for each bracket on a corresponding tooth and a number of stages, including an initial stage, determining movement of teeth from the initial teeth configuration to a final teeth configuration, and determining the custom composite orthodontic wire for each stage of the number of stages. The custom composite orthodontic wire used at the initial stage has at least one multidimensional bend. The custom composite orthodontic appliance for moving teeth is implemented by attaching brackets at the bracket mounting location for each bracket on a corresponding tooth, and connecting the brackets with the custom composite archwire.

  • Patent number: 7758785
Abstract: A fiber reinforced composite is formed using a shrinkable die. A composite of fiber and resin is placed in the die and is compressed by shrinking the die to form a desired transverse cross-section. Optionally, the die is bent along its lengthwise extent to shape the composite in the die. After shrinking and optional shaping, the composite is cured to form the fiber reinforced composite.

  • Publication number: 20090047614
Abstract: The invention provides a dental retainer 100, suitable for use in retaining a user's teeth (not shown) in position, said dental retainer 100 comprising a curved labial bow member 110 suitable for abutment against the labial side of a row of teeth of a user, said bow member 110 being composed of a fiber reinforced matrix of a suitable thermoplastic material. The bow member 110 is configured and dimensioned to extend operationally from a first end 112a to a second end 112b along the labial side of a user's teeth from at least a pre-molar to a pre-molar on an opposed side of a user's mouth. The dental retainer 100 further comprises a pair of support members 120 which are connected to the ends 112a & b of the labial bow member 110 at their anterior ends 124a & b respectively. Preferably, the support members 120 are removably connected to the labial bow member 110 by means of a connector 130.
