  • Patent number: 5624964
Abstract: A process for integration of a steam reforming unit and a cogeneration power plant in which said steam reforming unit comprises two communicating fluid beds; the first fluid bed comprising a reformer containing catalyst and which is used to react steam and light hydrocarbons at conditions sufficient to produce a mixture comprising synthesis gas hydrogen, carbon monoxide, and carbon dioxide, the second fluid bed comprising a combustor-regenerator which receives spent catalyst from the first fluid bed and which provides heat to heat the catalyst and balance the reaction endotherm, by combusting fuel gas in direct contact with the catalyst producing hot flue gas; said cogeneration power plant comprises a gas turbine equipped with an air compressor and a combustor; said integration which comprises drawing off a portion of compressed air from the power plant gas turbine air compressor leaving remainder compressed air; introducing the drawn off compressed air to the combustor-regenerator; mixing the hot flue gas fr

  • Patent number: 5292981
Abstract: A process for isoparaffin-olefin alkylation is provided that permits the use of solid acid catalysts which require frequent regeneration and high isoparaffin/olefin ratios. The process comprises circulating in a reactor a slurry comprising solid acid zeolite catalyst particles (20-2000 microns) and feed of liquid reactants comprising isoparaffins and olefins in an isoparaffin to olefin molar ratio of less than 100, recycling a first portion of said slurry to provide an isoparaffin to olefin molar ratio in the reactor of at least 500, passing a second portion of the slurry to a separating means to separate alkylate product from said solid catalyst particles, and regenerating the catalyst particles.

  • Patent number: 5277884
Abstract: A novel class of solvents is described that have improved selectivity for H.sub.2 S as compared to CO.sub.2. The solvents are based on adding suitable second partially miscible solvent to known solvents. In specific, it is shown that adding 20% of dodecane to NMP (normal methyl pyrolidinone) increases the selectivity of the solvent for H.sub.2 S as compared to CO.sub.2 by 50%. This leads to important process improvements and reduction in the cost of the removal process.

  • Patent number: 5060719
Abstract: A method is disclosed for increasing heat transfer efficiency between a conduit and a gas flowing through the conduit by fluidizing in the gas stream a Geldart Type A powder having controlled fines content. The invention further provides a method for integrating two fluid beds to transfer heat from a heat source to a fluid-bed reaction zone.

  • Patent number: 4954260
Abstract: A multistage countercurrent separation apparatus and method is described. Each stage includes a mixer zone and a settler zone, both of which have temperature control means to achieve a first temperature and a second temperature, respectively, in the mixer and settler zones. Solvents used in the process are selected so that they have at least one immiscibility transition temperature such that they form a single homogeneous phase at said first temperature and two heterogeneous phases at said second temperature. By carrying out the process, a solute or solutes introduced into the system may appropriately be efficiently concentrated or separated with minimal agitation. Furthermore, because emulsification by rapid agitation is avoided, the homogeneous phase quickly coalesces upon passing into the heterogeneous phase, thereby increasing the throughput which may be achieved by the extraction process.

  • Patent number: 4341069
Abstract: Fuel for satisfying low, normal and high electric power generation requirements is obtained from coal in the form of syngas and dimethyl ether fired in turbine-compressor arrangements driving electric generators, wherein the storable ether fuel is fired in turbine-generator arrangements to supplement that normally produced by firing and expanding syngas in appropriate turbine-generator arrangements. High pressure steam generated in the process is expanded in steam turbines to also generate power. Steam product of the combination operation is used in the coal gasification step to produce additional syngas.

  • Patent number: 4252736
Abstract: In the conversion of coal to gaseous and liquid products, the heat value of the coal is more completely retained by the products through the selective high efficiency conversion of coal to a low ratio syngas utilizing a portion of the Fischer-Tropsch generated heat recovered as steam, conversion of the low ratio syngas with a water gas shift F-T catalyst to a product comprising C.sub.1 to C.sub.50 hydrocarbons and oxygenates, converting the F-T product to premium gas and increased liquid fuels comprising gasoline and distillate with a special zeolite catalyst and recovering the SNG and LPG products of the selective steps to provide an improved product slate. A portion of the produced fuel gas is used in lieu of coal to provide some of the heat energy requirements of the combination process.

  • Patent number: 3970587
Abstract: A fluid catalytic cracking - catalyst regeneration system is described wherein regeneration of a crystalline zeolite hydrocarbon conversion catalyst is accomplished at an elevated temperature in the presence of regenerated catalyst mixed therewith in the upper portion of a bed of regenerated catalyst with the mix ratio controlled as a function of the amount of primary regeneration gas introduced to a lower portion of the bed of regenerated catalyst.
