Patents by Inventor Rex Huan-Yueh Chen

Rex Huan-Yueh Chen has filed for patents to protect the following inventions. This listing includes patent applications that are pending as well as patents that have already been granted by the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO).

  • Patent number: 7209747
Abstract: User equipment (UE) can detect a Radio Link Control (RLC) unrecoverable error and a Radio Link (RL) failure. The two errors are handled differently while the UE is in a dedicated channel (DCH) state. The RL failure leads to execution of Radio Access Bearer (RAB) release steps, characterized by utilizing respective timer values to determine if associated RABs should be released. The RLC unrecoverable error is not permitted to execute the RAB release steps. This prevents unnecessary dropping of services. The UTRAN can optionally include and set the indicators to command the UE to perform the indicated RLC re-establishmentprocedure.

  • Patent number: 7127253
Abstract: An improved device and method for determining when to start a timer that applies a temporary offset to a signal quality measurement of a cell that is a candidate for reselection in a 3GPP Hierarchical Cell Structured wireless communications system. For a cell ranking criterion R, the timer is started to apply the temporary offset according to present invention rules that insure that the temporary offset is not applied until a candidate is eligible for reselection, preventing premature expiration of the timer and unintended cell reselection. A present invention mobile unit that uses the improved method includes a housing, a central processor, a timer for applying the temporary offset, and a memory. The memory includes computer code that applies the claimed invention rules for starting the timer.

  • Patent number: 6961570
Abstract: A mobile unit, or UE (User Equipment) includes a Radio Resource Control (RRC) and a plurality of unique states defining the connectivity between the UE and a base station. Once a RRC indicates that it is “Out of Service”, a series of timers are started to limit the duration of attempts by the RRC to re-enter an “In Service” condition before the RRC releases allocated resources and moves to an Idle Mode. In certain circumstances, it is necessary to stop one or more of these timers to prevent inadvertently severing the connection.

  • Publication number: 20040032845
Abstract: 43The cell size of a virtual active set is forced to be conformal to that imposed upon an active set. Hence, events that would normally lead to the addition of a cell to the virtual active set are ignored if the virtual active set is full, and are not reported to avoid unnecessary radio traffic. To improve flexibility, both “Intra-frequency reporting criteria” and “Inter-frequency reporting criteria” structures can be present simultaneously in a MEASUREMENT CONTROL message. When processing a MEASUREMENT CONTROL message, if no “Inter-frequency set update” structure is included and “UE autonomous update mode” stored in the UE is “Off”, the UE does not remove the virtual active set, but continues to use it for Inter-frequency measurements.
