Patent number: 11833418Abstract: Systems and methods provide haptic feedback at locations of a keyboard palm rest during operation of a software program, such as a video game. During game play, a haptic event, such as an explosion, is detected within the game. A magnitude of the event and a direction of the event from a reference location in the game, such as an avatar's location, are determined. Haptic feedback locations on the palm rest are selected based on the magnitude of the event and the direction of the event from the reference location. Mechanical and thermal haptic feedback are generated at the selected locations of the palm rest, where the strength and timing of the feedback at each location are selected based on the magnitude and direction information for the event. Embodiments thus provide multi-dimensional haptic feedback that relates positional awareness to a user of events occurring within a video game.Type: GrantFiled: May 14, 2021Date of Patent: December 5, 2023Assignee: Dell Products L.P.Inventors: Rex W. Bryan, Deeder M. Aurongzeb, Peng Lip Goh

Patent number: 10459528Abstract: Gesture inputs at an information handling system adapt to manage end user resolution constraints by selectively assigning a physical input device to accept fractional inputs of the gesture type. For example, an end user maintains a gesture for a predetermined time to command a totem device to adapt from a first type of input, such as scrolling, to the gesture input so that the end user may more precisely manage the desired gesture input through the totem. Upon movement from the gesture, the physical input device reverts from the gesture input to the first type of input.Type: GrantFiled: February 28, 2018Date of Patent: October 29, 2019Assignee: Dell Products L.P.Inventors: Yagiz C. Patent number: 10283057Abstract: A heuristic learning algorithm uses an ALS to determine display brightness settings based on a stored response curve for display brightness for a user. When the user overrides the response curve value for display brightness at a given ALS output, the display brightness setting based on the user input is used to modify the response curve for the ALS output to lesser extent than the user input. Over time the response curve will approach desired user settings for each value of the ALS output.Type: GrantFiled: January 26, 2017Date of Patent: May 7, 2019Assignee: Dell Products L.P.Inventors: Karun Palicherla Reddy, Bradford Edward Vier, Rex W.
