  • Patent number: 8012512
Abstract: Phytate and/or phytin and/or phytic acid in an aqueous slurry of plant material is partially hydrolyzed by incubating the slurry with an enzyme product enriched in phytase. The soluble fraction of the slurry is separated into anionic and neutral fractions. The anionic fraction is then hydrolyzed further, and the hydrolyzate is separated into second ionic and neutral fractions. The second neutral fraction thus obtained is rich in inositol, and does not contain significant quantities of other sugars which would be hard to separate from it.

  • Patent number: 7989011
Abstract: Shown is a two stage filtration system for treatment of fibrous vegetable matter, particularly oilseed materials such as oil-extracted canola flakes to separate the low valued fibrous material from soluble material and small non-structural water-insoluble material of higher value. The filtration system receives a vegetable matter slurry and passes the slurry through first stage filter which is an impeller type filter that operates to separate the slurry into a filtrate and a moist retentate. The moist retentate is further filter in a second compression filtration stage or a centrifuge to remove additional water. Small non-structural insoluble matter is removed in the filtrate.

  • Patent number: 7629014
Abstract: Crushed and de-fatted oilseed is extracted with water at neutral, mildly basic or mildly acidic pH; and is filtered. The filter media allows passage of small fragments of solid cell meat into the filtrate. The filtrate is treated with a base to increase pH to over pH 9, and solids are separated out. Protein is separated from other constituents of the liquid and concentrated, for example by heat-induced or isoelectric precipitation and/or ultrafiltration. The remaining liquid is rich in sugars. The process results in one or more protein products suited for human or animal food ingredients or for production of cosmetics, a sugar rich product suitable for fermentation or use as a feed ingredient, and a fiber-protein animal feed ingredient.

  • Patent number: 6800308
Abstract: The present invention relates to a process for the aqueous extraction, fractionation and enzymatic treatment of oilseed materials to generate valued products with no significant low value by-product or waste streams. In particular, the fractionation scheme generates a protein-fiber feed ingredient principally for use with ruminant animals and a second dephytinized high protein fraction. The dephytinized high protein fraction has value as feed ingredient for a variety of species of animals.

  • Publication number: 20030170343
Abstract: Dry plant base products for example, fat extracted meals as a result of processing soybean, canola (rapeseed), sunflower, cottonseed, peanut and other seeds, whole seeds such as peas, beans, and cereal grains, plant based by-products such as rice bran, wheat bran, corn gluten meal, and all other plant based products used in diet formulation, is combined with high moisture animal, plant or microbial by-products, for example animal by-products such as macerated portions or whole carcasses from animals such as fish, poultry, swine or cattle and by-products of the dairy industry such as whey; plant by-products such as corn gluten meal and corn gluten feed; and microbial by-products such as distillers thins from the brewing and distilling industries. The mixture is treated with phytase to dephytinize the plant based products. Optionally, a chelating agent can be added to improve the efficiency of the reaction.
