  • Patent number: 11454705
Abstract: A system and method characterizes the height of targets in an environment around a vehicle. Signals are transmitted into the environment and return signals are received to determine a track corresponding to a target. For each track, bins are generated, each bin corresponding to a segment of the range, the segments having a gradually increasing size between the minimum range and maximum range. Range and magnitude values of the received return signals are determined for a selected track. A plurality of filled bins are determined, filled bins indicating that a return signal within the selected track has a range value falling within the segment corresponding to said bin. When the number of filled bins exceeds a set threshold, the return signals having range values within the segments corresponding to the filled bins are analyzed to characterize a height of the target.

  • Patent number: 8644436
Abstract: In one embodiment, an apparatus for channel estimation includes a first receiver configured to obtain a first channel estimate associated with a communication channel between the apparatus and a user equipment. The apparatus also includes a second receiver. The second receiver includes a channel estimation unit and a normal receiver processing unit. The channel estimation unit is configured to compute a second channel estimate of channel conditions associated with the communication channel. The normal receiver processing unit is configured to compute weights using the second channel estimation unit. The channel estimation unit is further configured to obtain a delay between the obtaining of the first channel estimate and the computing of the weights, and to compute the second channel estimate using the delay and the first channel estimate.

  • Patent number: 7894514
Abstract: A receiver device for use in a wireless communication system (20) includes a rake receiver (32) and an equalizer receiver (34). A controller (36) selects one of the rake receiver (32) or the equalizer receiver (34) for processing a received signal. In some situations, the rake receiver (32) will provide better performance. In other situations, the equalizer receiver (34) will provide better performance. One embodiment includes a plurality of equalizers (34A, 34B). One of the equalizers processes a data packet from a received signal while another one of the equalizers trains for processing a signal from a subsequent scheduled user. Another example embodiment includes controlling an equalizer length based on a delay span or another selected channel metric.

  • Patent number: 6496546
Abstract: A technique for receiving and transmitting wireless telecommunications through use of a generic architecture is disclosed. The present invention mitigates the complexity of different transceiver operations by allowing a generic architecture to be used in a variety of situations with different channels and different telecommunications standards. An illustrative embodiment of the present invention comprises: receiving uplink analog RF signals at a base station; converting the uplink analog wide-band RF signals into IF uplink digital signals at an analog-to-digital converter; converting the IF uplink digital signals into a number of uplink channels; and demodulating selected narrow-band uplink channels from the total number of narrow-band uplink channels.
