Publication number: 20180035597Abstract: An agricultural planter includes systems, methods, and apparatus for providing down force pressure at row units of the planter. The row units may include an electric linear actuator connected to linkages of the row units to provide and maintain a down force pressure for the row unit. The linkage may also be removed and replaced with a strut or like mechanism to apply a direct down force pressure to components of the row unit. One or more sensors can be included to obtain information related to the ground to automatically adjust the amount of down force provided based upon a ground characteristic in order to maintain a substantially uniform furrow depth.Type: ApplicationFiled: October 13, 2017Publication date: February 8, 2018Inventors: COURTNEY N. Publication number: 20170265379Abstract: An apparatus and methods for delivering a particulate product onto a soil surface proximate adjacently spaced crop rows. The apparatus includes a plurality of drop members supported by and spaced laterally along a boom structure such that each drop member is positioned between two adjacently spaced crop rows. The drop member extends downwardly from the boom structure toward the soil surface. The drop member supports a hopper which receives a quantity of particulate product. Diverging particulate product passageways supported from a lower portion of the drop member deliver the particulate product from the hoppers onto the soil surface adjacent the two adjacently spaced crop rows. In alternative embodiments, the drop members may also support liquid passageways for delivering liquid product to the soil surface with the particulate product and the drop members may support spray assemblies for spraying plants in the adjacent crop rows.Type: ApplicationFiled: March 20, 2017Publication date: September 21, 2017Inventors: Nowell Moore, Lee Dahlhauser, Rhett Schildroth, Lucas Helton

Patent number: 9474201Abstract: An agricultural planter includes a plurality of row units attached to a toolbar. The row units include seed meters for receiving, singulating, and dispensing seed or other particulate. The seed meters include a circular seed disc with a seed path for receiving the seed in the seed meter housing. Integrated with the seed disc is a motor that is housed within the seed meter housing and that includes a rotatable portion being attached to the circular disc such that the two rotate in tandem. The integrated motor can be positioned within an interior portion of the circular seed disc such that the width of the disc and motor combination is kept to a minimum.Type: GrantFiled: January 9, 2015Date of Patent: October 25, 2016Assignee: Kinze Manufacturing, Inc.Inventors: Matthew J. Wilhelmi, Merlan Rolffs, Dustan Hahn, John P. Mulherin, Courtney N. Achen, Michael J. Myers, Ryan Legge, Rhett Schildroth, Marvin Bachman, Todd E. Kniffen

Publication number: 20160302351Abstract: In one aspect, an agricultural system is provided and includes an information gathering component, a first component and a second component. The information gathering component is configured to gather information pertaining to at least one agricultural characteristic and generate agricultural data associated with the gathered information. The agricultural data is transmitted over a network and used to generate an agricultural prescription, which is comprised of at least one agricultural characteristic and at least one agricultural action. The first component includes a network interface for receiving the agricultural prescription over the network and the second component is in communication with the first component. The second component is configured to receive the agricultural prescription from the first component and is configured to output the at least one agricultural action.Type: ApplicationFiled: April 15, 2016Publication date: October 20, 2016Inventors: Rhett Schildroth, Daryl B. Starr
