Publication number: 20180001114Abstract: An apparatus and method for automatically lysing a clot to recanalize vessels using ultrasound, with or without nanoparticles, microbubbles, thrombolytic drugs or other agents, is described herein. At least one ultrasound transducer with a specified geometry, bandwidth and/or transmit pulse characteristics can generate a more uniform 3-dimensional volume of defocused acoustic energy into a target area of the body. When an agent (such as, but not limited to, microbubbles) is used to lyse a clot, a certain level of ultrasound energy may be desired in order to effect certain actions or states of the agent. Bone attenuation may present an issue inhibiting sufficient ultrasound energy from reaching the agent in order to attain the desired agent action. The relative patient dimensions and location of the clot may also present an issue.Type: ApplicationFiled: December 15, 2015Publication date: January 4, 2018Inventors: Rhodemann Li, Clayton T. Larsen

Patent number: 8480744Abstract: A method for delivering a spinal implant into a vertebral space, including providing a spinal implant, providing a die member defining an opening sized to receive the implant while in an initial configuration, inserting the implant into the opening in the die member, displacing the implant relative to the die member, transitioning the implant from the initial configuration to a deformed configuration having a reduced lateral profile relative to the initial configuration, and discharging the implant from the die member and inserting the implant into the vertebral space while in the deformed configuration.Type: GrantFiled: July 14, 2006Date of Patent: July 9, 2013Assignee: Warsaw Orthopedic, Inc.Inventors: Lehmann K. Li, Rhodemann Li

Patent number: 7081120Abstract: Instrumentation and method for delivering an implant into an intervertebral disc space, including a die member configured to transition the implant from an initial configuration to a deformed configuration having a reduced lateral profile suitable for insertion into the intervertebral disc space in a minimally invasive manner. In one embodiment, the die member includes an opening sized to receive the implant while in the initial configuration, and wherein relative displacement between the implant and the die member causes the implant to transition toward the reduced-profile deformed configuration. In a specific embodiment, the opening comprises an axial passage including a first portion having a rectangular cross-section corresponding to a substantially planar initial configuration of the implant, and a second portion having a circular cross-section corresponding to a substantially cylindrical deformed configuration of the implant.Type: GrantFiled: December 12, 2002Date of Patent: July 25, 2006Assignee: SDGI Holdings, Inc.Inventors: Lehmann K. Li, Rhodemann Li

Publication number: 20050070931Abstract: A method is for restricting food volume capacity of the stomach. The method comprises manipulating tissue from within the stomach to create an upper pouch and a lower pouch, and the tissue between the upper pouch and the lower pouch forming an opening therethrough, the upper pouch configured adjacent the gastroesophageal junction, the lower pouch configured adjacent the pylorus, and the opening having a periphery formed by drawing together the tissue. A device for creating a restriction in the stomach. The device comprises a retractor configured for deployment through the esophagus into the stomach; a plurality of arms selectively deployable from the retractor, each of the plurality of arms configured to position a securement device adjacent to a given location of tissue of the stomach from within the stomach; and deployment means for deploying the securement device positioned by each of the plurality of arms to the given location of the tissue of the stomach from within the stomach.Type: ApplicationFiled: August 6, 2004Publication date: March 31, 2005Inventors: Rhodemann Li, Lehmann Li

Publication number: 20040210315Abstract: A prosthetic nucleus for implantation in a chamber of an intervertebral disc after removal of at least a portion of a damaged or degenerated nucleus from the chamber, comprising a wafer of biologically compatible, thin, flexible, and expandable material in a selected first configuration. The wafer is adapted to be re-shaped mechanically into a compact second configuration of cross-section sufficiently small to permit travel of the wafer through a cannula and into the disc chamber. The wafer is further adapted to substantially regain the first configuration thereof by memory upon entry into the disc chamber, and the wafer is adapted to react to an expansion-inducing agent in the disc chamber to expand to an enlarged and selected third configuration.Type: ApplicationFiled: May 10, 2004Publication date: October 21, 2004Inventors: Lehmann K. Li, Rhodemann Li

Patent number: 6610079Abstract: A fastener system and procedure to secure a member in a medium. The system includes a tool to deliver both the member and a flowable, curable polymer onto, into or through the medium. The flowable polymer is injected into, through or around the member. As the flowable polymer cures, it acts as either a solid filler or as an adhesive to provide fixation for the member, or to enhance fixation of the member.Type: GrantFiled: June 30, 2000Date of Patent: August 26, 2003Assignee: Linvatec CorporationInventors: Lehmann K.
