  • Patent number: 8708016
Abstract: A process and apparatus for manufacturing tires for vehicle wheels, includes building, on a toroidal support, a carcass structure including at least one carcass ply associated, at axially opposite end edges thereof, with annular anchoring structures, the building step of the carcass structure includes forming at least one reinforcing structure, operatively associated with the annular anchoring structures through deposition on the toroidal support of at least one reinforcing element along a predetermined curvilinear deposition path. The deposition of the at least one reinforcing element includes the steps of: cutting to size a piece of at least one reinforcing continuous band-like element fed by a feeding device along a predetermined feeding direction, deforming the piece obtained according to the curvature of a deposition part of the deposition path intended to receive the piece, and depositing the deformed piece at the deposition part.

  • Patent number: 8235083
Abstract: In a tire for vehicle wheels, each of the two annular anchoring structures includes at least two annular reinforcing inserts, each of them being made up of at least one first elongated element and at least two reinforcing elements that are mutually spaced apart and each of which extends in a radial direction and includes at least one second elongated element. An end portion of at least one carcass ply lies between two adjacent annular reinforcing inserts. The second elongated element of at least one of the reinforcing elements is of metal material and delimits an angle included between about 20° and about 70° relative to a radial direction passing through a radially internal point thereof.

  • Patent number: 8172973
Abstract: A method of molding and curing a tire for a vehicle wheel includes building an unvulcanized tire on a toroidal support; heating the support; pressing an inner surface of the tire against an outer surface of the support; and pressing an outer surface of the tire against walls of a molding cavity defined in a vulcanization mold. The inner surface of the tire is pressed against the outer surface by at least one secondary working fluid. The outer surface of the tire is pressed against the walls by at least one primary working fluid. The at least one primary working fluid is heated, causing vulcanization of the tire. An apparatus for molding and curing a tire for a vehicle wheel includes the vulcanization mold, at least one passage device, a feeding device, and first and second heating devices. It may also include an airtight device arranged to receive the support.

The deposition of the at least one reinforcing element includes the steps of providing at least one reinforcing element having a length determined as a function of the length of the deposition region; deforming the at least one reinforcing element to form an annular reinforcing element having a shape substantially corresponding to the shape of the deposition region; and depositing the annular reinforcing element at the deposition region.
