Patent number: 8894864Abstract: Disclosed herein is a controlled method of minimizing radioactive sludge generation in treatment of wastewater from an oil and/or gas well. The method comprises measuring a concentration of a radioactive material in wastewater to be treated and measuring a concentration of barium in the wastewater to be treated. The method further comprises adding a calculated quantity of sulfate to the wastewater to be treated sufficient to precipitate a quantity of barium sufficient to reduce the concentration of the radioactive material to a level such that sludge precipitated in a secondary precipitation has a radiation level below a defined radiation level.Type: GrantFiled: August 8, 2011Date of Patent: November 25, 2014Assignee: Evoqua Water Technologies LLCInventors: Stanley R. Karrs, Richard A. Altman

Publication number: 20130118994Abstract: Systems and methods have been developed for treating waste water and produced water, so as to remove contaminants therefrom. The systems and methods allow specifically for the removal of contaminants from produced water from oil and gas wells, fracturing flow-back water, and water- or brine-based drilling fluids. The water is treated by contacting the contaminated fluid with ozone after contacting the fluid with a diffused air system to generate small bubbles for entrainment of some contaminants. Thereafter, the water is contacted with an electro-coagulation system in order to remove flocculants and adjust the pH and the total dissolved solids levels of the fluid.Type: ApplicationFiled: March 21, 2012Publication date: May 16, 2013Applicant: R360 ENVIRONMENTAL SOLUTIONSInventor: Richard Altman

Publication number: 20110158784Abstract: A method of passing a pipe from a first vessel to a second vessel using an arm assembly affixed to the second vessel is provided herein. The method includes moving the second vessel within proximity of the first vessel and anchoring, or pinning, the second vessel. The arm assembly of the second vessel is moved toward the pipe, until the pipe is secured, or disposed, therein. The first vessel then releases the pipe.Type: ApplicationFiled: March 8, 2011Publication date: June 30, 2011Inventors: Richard A. Altman, Michael D. Brown, Peter W. Nimmo

Patent number: 7874365Abstract: Methods and devices are provided for treating multiple interval well bores. More particularly, an isolation assembly may be used to allow for zonal isolation to allow treatment of selected productive or previously producing intervals in multiple interval well bores. One example of a method for treating a multiple interval well bore includes the steps of: introducing an isolation assembly to a well bore, the isolation assembly comprising a liner, one or more sleeves and a plurality of swellable packers, wherein the sleeves and swellable packers are disposed about the liner; deploying a shifting tool inside the liner, where the sleeves are configured so as to provide open, closed and open to screen positions when actuated by the shifting tool. An open position allows for treatment of the well bore while an open to screen position allows for receiving fluid from the well bore. A closed position re-establishes zonal isolation.Type: GrantFiled: May 4, 2009Date of Patent: January 25, 2011Assignee: Halliburton Energy Services Inc.Inventors: Loyd E. East, Jr., Perry Wayne Courville, Richard Altman, Robert Clayton

Patent number: 7815398Abstract: A vessel is provided that is an improvement over previously disclosed jack-up rigs and lift boats. The vessel has at least three thrusters and is self-propelled. The vessel additionally has a raised and hollow crane support on which a crane may be mounted. The crane support is preferably affixed to tracks, which permit the crane to slide along the deck of the vessel. The raised and hollowed feature of the crane support permits the storage of equipment and things beneath the crane support without hindering the movement of the crane along the tracks. Optionally, the vessel further has an extension assembly atop which may be deployed a workover rig assembly. The crane may be used to assemble the extension assembly and thus aid in the construction, remediation, and demolition of offshore oil and gas platforms and wells.Type: GrantFiled: March 26, 2008Date of Patent: October 19, 2010Assignee: Remedial Cayman LimitedInventors: Richard A.
