Patent number: 4584067Abstract: Aluminum electrolytic capacitor foil is etched by first subjecting high-cubicity foil to a chemical etching stage in which the etchant is an acidic aqueous solution containing an acid having anions for anodizing aluminum, hydrochloric acid, transition metal ions, and aluminum ions. Preferably, the anodizing anions are present in a greater concentration than the chloride ions. The foil is then subjected to a second etching step which may be chemical or electrochemical. The process produces a high capacitance foil with high bend strength.Type: GrantFiled: February 28, 1985Date of Patent: April 22, 1986Assignee: Sprague Electric CompanyInventors: Clinton E. Hutchins, Derek E. Rougeau, Thomas E. Chalmers, Richard A. Bemis
-
Patent number: 4332651Abstract: Aluminum capacitor foil is etched in a bath at 30.degree. to 45.degree. C. containing 0.5 to 1.8 M hydrochloric acid, 0.05 to 0.3 M phosphoric acid, 0.2 to 0.5 aluminum chloride and 0.09 to 1.0 M alkali or alkaline earth metal chloride while being subjected to alternating current at 15 to 36 Hz frequency.Type: GrantFiled: May 20, 1981Date of Patent: June 1, 1982Assignee: Sprague Electric CompanyInventors: Richard A. Bemis, Clinton E. Hutchins, Edward J. Markland, Mulk R. Arora
-
Patent number: 4319972Abstract: Aluminum electrolytic capacitor foil is etched in a bath containing 0.75 to 1.8 M hydrochloric acid, 0.2 to 0.5 M aluminum chloride, and 0.05 to 0.4 M oxalic acid, while subjected to the action of alternating current of 16 to 36 Hz at 30 to 45.degree. C. in a single stage process.Type: GrantFiled: December 12, 1980Date of Patent: March 16, 1982Assignee: Sprague Electric CompanyInventor: Richard A. Bemis

Patent number: 4319365Abstract: A device for joining a toilet seat and cover to a commode without using tools and from only one side. A base assembly is attached to the commode using a bolt rotated by a hand graspable head portion. A cover conceals the bolt assembly from view. In one embodiment the head portion of the bolt folds out of sight and into engagement with the base; a cover, attached to the base then folds over the handle. In another embodiment the head portion of the expanding bolt folds into the base; the base and the folded head forming complementary interlocking structures disguising the bolt assembly. The bolt employs a nut indexed to a slit on the stem portion of the base. Manipulating the head portion of the bolt draws the nut into engagement with the stem. The outward flaring of the stem anchors the bolt in the mounting holes of the commode. The head portion of the bolt holds the base on the commode. In one embodiment the stem is separable from the base.Type: GrantFiled: February 11, 1980Date of Patent: March 16, 1982Assignee: Bemis Manufacturing CompanyInventors: Richard A. Bemis, Gordon Kelly

Patent number: 3965493Abstract: A replacement water closet tank for toilets, comprising, a tank means formed of a thin, rigid, high-impact strength plastic, including, a generally-rectangular, open-topped tank; a cover designed to overlap and fit flush with the exterior walls of the tank; interlock means, such as flat tabs formed on the interior of and parallel to the lower rim of the cover and spaced from the cover by perpendicularly-disposed flat spines to form generally T-shaped structures which fit into slots in the upper edge of the tank to clamp the upper edge of the tank between the overlapping portion of the cover and the tabs; and a generally-rectangular, thin, pliable plastic liner having overall dimensions sufficiently less than those of the tank to fit within the tank and form an air space between the tank and the liner and an upper rim extended outwardly a sufficient distance to contact the sides of the tank and be pressed against the tank to form an air-tight seal.Type: GrantFiled: March 12, 1975Date of Patent: June 29, 1976Assignee: Bemis Manufacturing CompanyInventor: Richard A. Patent number: 3962048Abstract: In a continuous electrolytic foil forming process employing a source of constant d.c. voltage, the speed with which the foil is drawn through the electrolyte is automatically adjusted by a feedback mechanism to maintain a constant value of forming current, thereby producing an oxide film whose thickness is substantially invariant over the entire length of the foil.Type: GrantFiled: January 8, 1975Date of Patent: June 8, 1976Assignee: Sprague Electric CompanyInventors: Curtiss M. Gilbert, Richard A. Bemis, Norman D. Schulze
