  • Patent number: 4358641
Abstract: High voltage control devices are provided comprising a housing, an aprotic liquid contained within said housing, means for effecting heat exchange with said liquid, at least two spaced electrodes contained within said liquid and each of said electrodes extending from said housing. These devices find utility as variable resistors, circuit breakers, theremostats, optical triggering devices, acoustic pulse generators and the like.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: July 31, 1980
Date of Patent: November 9, 1982
    Assignee: GTE Laboratories Incorporated
Inventors: Joseph M. Proud, James J. Auborn, Richard A. Bessett
  • Patent number: 4209571
Abstract: A primary electrochemical cell includes a thermal switch electrically connected between one of the electrodes and its associated terminal to prevent the cell from being discharged when the temperature inside the cell exceeds a predetermined level.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: August 28, 1975
Date of Patent: June 24, 1980
    Assignee: GTE Laboratories Incorporated

  • Patent number: 4063132
Abstract: A half wavelength resonant cavity having inner and outer coaxial conductors is coupled at one end to a dc power source, and a gas discharge electrodeless lamp is disposed in the region between the conductors at the other end of the cavity. Repetitive bursts of radio frequency oscillations occur within the cavity, the oscillations causing breakdown of the fill material within the lamp to produce light.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: August 4, 1976
Date of Patent: December 13, 1977
    Assignee: GTE Laboratories Inc.
Inventors: Joseph M. Proud, Richard A. Bessett, William H. McNeill
