  • Patent number: 12366692
Abstract: An optical filter, a sensor device including the optical filter, and a method of fabricating the optical filter are provided. The optical filter includes one or more dielectric layers and one or more metal layers stacked in alternation. The metal layers are intrinsically protected by the dielectric layers. In particular, the metal layers have tapered edges that are protectively covered by one or more of the dielectric layers.

Date of Patent: July 22, 2025
    Assignee: VIAVI Solutions Inc.
Inventors: Georg J. Ockenfuss, Tim Gustafson, Jeffrey James Kuna, Markus Bilger, Richard A. Bradley, Jr.
  • Patent number: 12317620
Abstract: A variable optical filter is disclosed including a bandpass filter and a blocking filter. The bandpass filter includes a stack of alternating first and second layers, and the blocking filter includes a stack of alternating third and fourth layers. The first, second and fourth materials each comprise different materials, so that a refractive index of the first material is smaller than a refractive index of the second material, which is smaller than a refractive index of the fourth material; while an absorption coefficient of the second material is smaller than an absorption coefficient of the fourth material. The materials can be selected to ensure high index contrast in the blocking filter and low optical losses in the bandpass filter. The first to fourth layers can be deposited directly on a photodetector array.

  • Patent number: 12055739
Abstract: An optical filter having a passband at least partially overlapping with a wavelength range of 800 nm to 1100 nm is provided. The optical filter includes a filter stack formed of hydrogenated silicon layers and lower-refractive index layers stacked in alternation. The hydrogenated silicon layers each have a refractive index of greater than 3 over the wavelength range of 800 mn to 1100 nm and an extinction coefficient of less than 0.0005 over the wavelength range of 800 nm to 1100 nm.

  • Patent number: 11215741
Abstract: A filter may include a first component filter associated with a first angle shift and a first passband. The filter may include a second component filter associated with a second angle shift and a second passband, wherein the first angle shift, the first passband, the second angle shift, and the second passband are configured to make the filter transmissive to a spectral range of light at a first angle of incidence and reflective to the spectral range of light at a second angle of incidence.

  • Patent number: 11156753
Abstract: An optical filter may include a monolithic substrate. The optical filter may include a first component filter disposed onto a first region of the monolithic substrate. The first component filter may be a near infrared (NIR) bandpass filter. The optical filter may include a second component filter disposed onto a second region of the monolithic substrate. The second component filter may include a red-green-blue (RGB) bandpass filter. A separation between the first component filter and the second component filter may be less than approximately 50 micrometers (?m).
