  • Patent number: 5183054
Abstract: A biopsy device is disclosed having a tubular cannula through which a stylet having a stylet cavity near the distal end is placed. The stylet is attached to a stylet actuator and the cannula is attached to a cannula actuator. Both actuators are constrained by a housing to relative proximal and distal movement. In use, the stylet and stylet cavity are positioned in the cannula. The cannula and stylet are then inserted into the patient's tissue. When a sample is to be taken, the stylet is moved farther into the patient's tissue thereby exposing the stylet cavity. The patient's tissue then falls into the stylet cavity. Thereafter, the cannula actuator moves the cannula forward over the stylet cavity thereby cutting the tissue so that a sample of the tissue remains in the stylet cavity which becomes encased by the cannula as the cannula is moved forward.

  • Patent number: 4863453
Abstract: A sterile closure device for a stoppered container which includes a cover member positioned over the top portion of the stopper, a shrinkable band member enclosing a peripheral portion of the cover member and the top portion of the stopper and having a pull tab portion by which the band member can be fractured and a spot of adhesive connecting the peripheral portion of the cover member to the band member such that upon fracture of the band member the cover member and tab portion will be removed together.

  • Patent number: 4793363
Abstract: A bone marrow biopsy device is provided that includes a cannula member and a stylet member each having arcuate handles having a length greater than the width thereof, a luer lock connector, and a handle locking arrangement. The cannula member handle has a recess which receives a collar on the stylet member handle. A radial pin and an axially extending luer lock connector are disposed in the recess. The collar has a slot which receives the pin for locking the stylet and cannula members together.

  • Patent number: 4702261
Abstract: A biopsy device is provided that includes a housing and relatively slidable tissue cutting and stylet members, both movable with respect to the housing. The members have actuators for manually moving the members and which are mounted in parallel relation to each other and when the proximal ends are equidistant from the housing, the cutting member covers a tissue receiving cavity in the stylet. The actuators are provided with stops to prevent the distal tip of the cutting member from moving distally beyond the distal tip of the stylet. A hand grip can be releasably attached to the device.

  • Patent number: 4592746
Abstract: A device for selectively locking a syringe plunger against longitudinal movement with respect to the syringe barrel includes two interlocking device parts. Each device part has a generally flat body with a generally semi-circular inner perimeter and first and second ends. A ridge extends along the inner perimeter of each half for engaging the syringe plunger when the plunger is rotated to a predetermined angular position. Each interlocking part has mating structures at each end for mating with the other device part and has a flange for retaining the assembled locking device on the syringe barrel. The syringe and locking device are assembled by inserting the plunger in the syringe barrel and then snapping the two device parts together around the proximal end of the syringe barrel.
