  • Publication number: 20040155899
Abstract: A method and system are described for presenting an arrangement of management devices operable in a managed network. According to exemplary embodiments, a number of management devices arranged in the managed network are identified. Identities of the management devices are presented in a graphical user interface (GUI). Visual cues are added to the GUI to identify a communication status between a first of the management devices and each of the remaining management devices arranged in the managed network. A software link can be provided between each presented identity and the respective management device to provide automated access to management information maintained at the respective management device. A graphical representation and an operational status of a portion of the managed network can be presented based on the management information maintained at the respective management device in the GUI via the software link.

  • Publication number: 20040158780
Abstract: A method and system are described for presenting neighbors of a device in a network via a graphical user interface. According to exemplary embodiments, a determination is made for a segment of the network that includes the device whether a connecting device is coupled to a corresponding connecting device included in another segment of the network. Identities of the device and the coupled connecting and corresponding connecting devices are presented together with visual cues identifying a connectivity among the presented identities in the graphical user interface.

  • Patent number: 6633834
Abstract: A network management node monitors network attributes of a network. The network management node is connected to network devices through the network and receives data values associated with measured network attributes from said network devices. The data values are stored in the network management node and a baseline value and rearm baseline value for a network attribute are calculated from a plurality of the received data values measured during a first period of time (e.g., a first time bucket). These data values are compared to the baseline value, and an alarm is generated in response to at least one of these data values exceeding the baseline value. The alarm is reset if at least one subsequently measured data value is below the rearm baseline value. The baseline value and rearm baseline value are recalculated from received data values measured during subsequent time buckets. Data values measured during the subsequent time buckets are compared to corresponding baseline and rearm baseline values.

  • Publication number: 20020165934
Abstract: A network management tool operable to display a visual representation (e.g., a network topology) of network devices monitored by the network management tool is disclosed. Network management software (NMS) is executed on a network management node for monitoring one or more networks. The NMS includes a display module and a filter module. The filter module allows a user, such as a network administrator, to select a plurality of filters that limit the information provided in the visual representation. The network administrator may select filters associated with particular types of nodes and/or status levels of the selected nodes. Information associated with the selected filters may be retrieved from a database containing information about the nodes in the monitored networks. The display module creates the visual representation using the retrieved information. The visual representation is divided into segments, and the visual representation may be displayed on a single display page.

  • Publication number: 20020156878
Abstract: A method and system is disclosed that transmits a signal from a network manager to each of plural nodes to determine the availability of each node. A response time of each node is determined using the signal. The response time of each node is then relayed to a database of the network manager. Optionally, the response time which is received in a standard format is converted into a flat file format.

  • Publication number: 20020156920
Abstract: A method and system is disclosed for automatically discovering Cisco Discovery Protocol (CDP) nodes a network in real time. The discover process transmits a signal from a network manager to a first CDP node of the network. The signal requests information regarding additional CDP nodes known to the first node. The network manger receives a response is that identifies additional CDP nodes known to the first CDP node. The transmitting and receiving steps are then repeated for each additional CDP node identified. A list containing information of all identified nodes is then stored.

  • Patent number: 4745239
Abstract: A multiple wire joining device is disclosed which includes a generally tubular, deformable, electrically conductive housing having multiple apertures formed in the wall thereof. The apertures are axially spaced apart along the length of the housing and are each adapted to admit a wire therethrough so that it may entend axially along a length of the housing. The spacings between the apertures are sufficient to permit the admittance of a wire into the housing through each of the apertures a sufficient distance to enable the crimping of the housing adjacent each aperture to retain the respective wire therein.

  • Patent number: 4742428
Abstract: Protective relay apparatus is constructed of an operating unit that is withdrawable from its insulating housing through an opening at the front thereof. A plurality of sets of shorting contacts and a plurality of plug-type disconnect contacts are mounted to the rear wall of the housing and extend forward therefrom. Mounted on the drawout unit rear panel are a plurality of receptacle-type contacts that receive and cooperate with the disconnect contacts when the drawout unit is inserted fully within the housing. At that time blade means mounted in the drawout unit are interposed between contact sections of the respective sets of shorting contacts to separate contact portions of the latter. Each blade means includes an insulating layer interposed between conducting layers that are engaged with the respective contact sections of the shorting contacts to connect these contact sections in circuit with lumped elements forming part of the drawout unit.

  • Patent number: 4514710
Abstract: An electronic actuator having an armature movable between the legs of a u-shaped structure of magnetic material and guided by a sleeve of non-magnetic material which is held in place by an annular member of the magnetic material. A permanent magnet is located between the legs and is secured between the magnetic structure and the annular member to form a magnetic path through the parts and to magnetically latch the armature in either of two positions. Electromagnetic coils are mounted on the sleeve on opposite sides of the annular member to selectively drive the armature to either of such positions.

  • Patent number: 4429716
Abstract: A balanced valve in which a hollow cylindrical valve element is slideably supported solely by a pair of O-rings adjacent opposite ends of the valve element. The O-rings loosely engage longitudinally grooved sections which are directly adjacent annular valve seats against which the O-rings engage to close the valve. When the valve element is moved to open the valve, fluid will flow through both grooved sections. The valve element is moved between open and closed positions by two solenoid coils operating concurrently and is magnetically latched in each position.

  • Patent number: 4420665
Abstract: A moisture proof switch in which an elastomeric O-ring is interposed between a push button and a switch housing. The O-ring is normally held in partial compression to prevent entrance of moisture, etc. into the housing and to normally hold a switch contact member out of engagement with contacts carried by the housing. Depression of the push button further compresses the O-ring to close the switch.

  • Patent number: 4395084
Abstract: A frame type electrical socket for connecting leadless integrated circuit packages to a printed circuit board is disclosed. The socket includes a rectangular frame member and four contact assemblies. Each contact assembly is designed to detachably mate with each side of the frame. The contact assemblies include molded-in-place contacts which are shaped to provide pressure contacts after they are molded in place. Prior to molding, the contacts are in the form of flat ribbons, allowing them to be constructed in the form of a lead frame. The socket possesses all of the features of molded-in-place contacts as well as having the advantage of being able to replace damaged contacts without discarding the frame.
