  • Publication number: 20190133885
Abstract: An adapter assembly for establishing bidirectional fluid connection between a cartridge and a vial includes a housing having an open first end adapted to engage the cartridge and a second open end adapted to engage the vial. The adapter includes a needle assembly having a first tip and a second tip, with the needle assembly disposed within the housing and at least partially supported by a needle holder. The needle assembly is movable relative to the housing from an initial position in which the first and second tip are isolated from the cartridge and vial, to an end of use position, in which first tip is engaged with the vial and the second tip is engaged with the cartridge, establishing fluid communication therebetween. The needle assembly is maintained in the initial position by a locking structure which is released by rotationally advancing the needle holder relative to the housing.

  • Patent number: 10279125
Abstract: In one aspect, a medical injector is provided herein having a body and an overcap releasably attached to the body configured to prevent mounting of a needle prior to mixing of components within the body. In a further aspect, a slidable collet may be provided useable to urge resilient members from an outward disrupted state inwardly to collectively define a needle mount. Advantageously, a medical injector is provided which ensures proper sequence in preparation of the device, particularly with respect to the step of allowing mounting of a medical needle to the device subsequent to preparation of the medicament to be administered.

Abstract: A system includes an access cannula, a deployment cannula having a plurality of engagement arms, and a containment bag. The deployment cannula is slidable within the access cannula between an initial condition, wherein the engagement arms are retained in a contracted configuration, and a deployed condition, wherein the engagement arms are disposed in an expanded configuration. The containment bag includes an open end portion configured to receive the first elongated tubular member and the second elongated tubular member. In the initial condition, a portion of the containment bag towards the open end portion is positioned adjacent at least one of the first elongated tubular member or the second elongated tubular member. In the deployed condition, the portion of the containment bag is expanded such that the portion of the containment bag is spaced-apart from the at least one of the first elongated tubular member or the second elongated tubular member.

  • Patent number: 10143808
Abstract: With the subject invention, a container for an injection device with an injection needle is provided. The container includes a body having a compartment formed therein to accommodate the injection device in both a pre-use and a post-use condition. The body defines a first opening through which the injection device in its pre-use condition may be accessed, and the body defines a second opening into which the injection device may be directed in its post-use condition. A closure is provided for closing the first opening. The container also includes a retainer for retaining the injection device in the container in its post-use condition preventing access to the injection needle after the injection device has been used to administer an injection. Advantageously, the container of the subject invention provides not only a pre-use packaging for the injection device, but also a post-use sharps container for the injection device.

  • Patent number: 10124120
Abstract: A medical injector is provided herein having a body with a displaceable plunger. The plunger includes a plurality of spaced-apart ratchet teeth disposed along the length thereof. At least one indexer is provided formed to engage the plunger, wherein the indexer is configured to allow the plunger to displace distally towards a distal end of the body but not proximally towards a proximal end of the body. The medical injector also includes an actuator having an engagement portion formed to engage one or more of the ratchet teeth. The actuator is displaceable to a ready state, the engagement portion being displaced proximally relative to the plunger with the actuator being displaced to the ready state. The indexer prevents proximal movement of the plunger thereby allowing the engagement portion to by-pass one or more of the ratchet teeth with the actuator being displaced to the ready state. In addition, the actuator is displaceable from the ready state to cause actuation of the medical injector.

  • Patent number: 10034980
Abstract: A medical injector is provided herein having a body; a reservoir containing first and second mixable components; a stopper; a plunger disposed in the body; a spring disposed to advance the plunger; a first releasable retainer for releasably retaining the plunger in a first state against force of the spring; a first trigger for causing the first releasable retainer to release the plunger; a second releasable retainer for releasably retaining the plunger in a second state against force of the spring; and, a second trigger for causing the second releasable retainer to release the plunger. The spring causes the plunger to advance so that the stopper traverses at least a predetermined extent of advancement thereby causing mixing of the first and second mixable components. Advantageously, with the subject invention, a medical injector is provided which allows for autoreconstitution with subsequent dose setting and autoplunger activation being activated by separate triggers.

  • Patent number: 9901681
Abstract: In one aspect, a medical injector is provided herein which includes a body; a displaceable plunger disposed in the body; a spring disposed to advance the plunger; a releasable retainer for retaining the plunger in a first state against force of the spring; and, a sleeve disposed on the body, the sleeve being slidable relative to the body. Sliding movement of the sleeve over a predetermined extent relative to the body results in the releasable retainer releasing the plunger thereby allowing the spring to advance the plunger. Advantageously, the subject invention provides a medical injector having an automated plunger drive which is triggered upon sliding movement of the sleeve, thereby minimizing premature or failed activations.

  • Patent number: 9833577
Abstract: A medical injector is provided herein which includes first and second body portions each having a longitudinal axis and configured to couple at a coupling. The medical injector also includes an axially-displaceable plunger; biasing element for advancing the plunger a predetermined distance; and, a releasable retainer for releasably retaining the plunger in a first state against the force of the biasing element. In an initial state, the axes of the first and second body portions are not aligned and the plunger is in the first state. In a coupled state, the axes of the first and second body portions are axially aligned, and the releasable retainer releases the plunger, thereby allowing the biasing element to advance the plunger the predetermined distance. Advantageously, the subject invention provides a medical injector having an automated plunger drive which is triggered upon assembly of the pen injector, thereby minimizing premature or failed activations.

  • Publication number: 20170049958
Abstract: The subject invention provides a drug delivery device for injecting medicament which includes: a tubular reservoir; a stopper slidably disposed in the reservoir; a spring for moving the stopper in the reservoir; at least one needle, the needle having a distal end for insertion into a patient, and a lumen extending proximally from the distal end, the lumen being in direct or indirect communication with the reservoir; a needle driver for displacing the needle; and, an actuator. Activation of the actuator causes the spring to move the stopper and the needle driver to displace the needle. The needle moves relative to, and separately from, the reservoir with the needle being displaced. Advantageously, with the subject invention, a drug delivery device is provided wherein a needle is moved, relative to the reservoir, in being displaced for injection. This permits control of the needle displacement separate from the reservoir.
