Publication number: 20100222639Abstract: A self-retaining bone conduction hearing device having a sound processor (104) and a nonoccluding in-the-canal vibrating component (108) responsive to the sound processor and configured for non-surgical-implantation in a recipient's ear canal. Utilizing bone conduction eliminates the dependency on acoustic stimulation, thereby enabling the hearing device of the present invention to address a wider range of sound frequencies in conductive hearing loss.Type: ApplicationFiled: July 27, 2007Publication date: September 2, 2010Applicants: COCHLEAR LIMITED, EAROTECH., INC.Inventors: Christopher Purcell, Richard Fleming, David P. Morris, Manohar Bance

Patent number: 7457199Abstract: An acoustic projector with a thin walled shell extending between flanges having helicoidal corrugations extending between the flanges. A shear mode motor is coupled to the thin walled shell to provide a torque to the thin walled shell.Type: GrantFiled: March 3, 2006Date of Patent: November 25, 2008Assignee: Her Majesty the Queen as represented by the Minister of National Defence of her Majesty's Canadian GovernmentInventors: Christopher John A. Purcell, Richard A. Fleming

Publication number: 20060133212Abstract: A portable low frequency underwater acoustic projector having two circular diaphragms separated by a spacer ring with a pair of coils and oscillating masses being located in pipes connected to central opening in two diaphragms, the coils driving these masses in opposite directions. Central openings in each diaphragm have an associated pipe extending outward from the interior of the projector, the pipe having closed outer ends. The interior of the projector being gas filled to provide pressure compensation.Type: ApplicationFiled: December 5, 2005Publication date: June 22, 2006Inventors: Richard Religa, Richard Fleming, George Schattschneider

Publication number: 20050269796Abstract: A method and apparatus are provided for controlling power hop in a Hotchkiss-type vehicle suspension having a live axle housing supported by a left and right suspension leaf spring, through the use of a pair of half-leaf springs adapted for operative attachment at a rear end thereof to the left and right terminal ends respectively of the axle housing, and a damping device adapted for operative attachment between a chassis of the vehicle and the rear axle housing. The half-leaf spring members extend longitudinally in a forward direction, below and generally in vertical alignment with their respectively associated suspension leaf spring, and are spaced therefrom, with the forward end of each half-spring member including a snubber for contacting a lower surface of the associated suspension leaf spring and terminating below and adjacent the forward end of its respectively associated suspension leaf spring.Type: ApplicationFiled: June 3, 2004Publication date: December 8, 2005Inventors: Thomas Sawarynski, Richard Fleming, Michael Corbin, Steven Lyman, Richard Myers

Publication number: 20050152222Abstract: An acoustic projector comprising a pair of spaced apart end plates with an acoustic driver positioned between the end plates. The end plate's edges are secured to an outer one-piece thin walled shell that provides an enclosure for the driver. That thin walled shell has a convex outwardly bent surface between the end plates and a plurality of axially extending corrugations to provide a predetermined axial compliance and radial-to-axial transformation ratio.Type: ApplicationFiled: December 1, 2004Publication date: July 14, 2005Inventors: Rick Kaufman, Steven Saint-Vincent, Richard Fleming, Christopher Purcell
-
Publication number: 20050092947Abstract: A valve assembly for dispensing fluids prone to forming solids such as liquid carbon dioxide and liquid chocolate includes a valve which is held in a normally off position by a spring-activated plunger assembly. The spring-activated plunger assembly is coupled to a lifting arm, activated by a solenoid to counteract the spring and to selectively open the valve to allow fluid to flow. When the solenoid is deactivated the spring forces the valve closed, and the force of the spring forces any solid build up away from the valve aperture and valve seat.Type: ApplicationFiled: October 12, 2004Publication date: May 5, 2005Inventor: Richard Fleming

Patent number: 6584039Abstract: An underwater acoustic projector comprising a pair of spaced apart end plates with an acoustic driver positioned between the end plates, the driver having smaller cross-sectional dimensions than the end plates. Each end plate close one end of an open ended tubular pipe waveguide and that plate is mechanically connected to one end of a piezoelectric drive unit with a tubular waveguide extending inwards and surrounding the end portion of the acoustic driver.Type: GrantFiled: June 17, 2002Date of Patent: June 24, 2003Assignee: Her Majesty the Queen in right of Canada, as represented by the Minister of National DefenceInventors: Christopher John A. Purcell, Richard A. Fleming

Patent number: 6567343Abstract: An underwater acoustic projector comprising a pair of spaced apart end walls with an acoustic driver positioned between the end walls, the driver having smaller cross-sectional dimensions than the end walls. The projector has a one piece thin wall inwardly concavely shaped shell with corrugations running in the axial direction surrounding the driver and mechanically coupled to the end walls. An open ended tubular waveguide (pipe) is connected to each end wall of the projector and extend outward forming a flextensional resonant pipe projector.Type: GrantFiled: June 17, 2002Date of Patent: May 20, 2003Assignee: Her Majesty the Queen in right of Canada, as represented by the Minister of National DefenceInventors: Christopher John A. Purcell, Richard A. Fleming

Patent number: 4029351Abstract: A pickup head, which is of the type referred to in the art as a Bernoulli pickup head, is used to lift and/or transport a semiconductor wafer. The head is provided with a central positive pressure gas coupled orifice or port and at least three auxiliary positive pressure gas coupled orifices disposed symmetrically about the central orifice. The gas flow from the central orifice effects the main lifting force and the gas flow from the auxiliary orifices effects additional restoring torque to correct for any wafer tilt, if present. Thus, the integrity of the non-contacting relationship between the head and wafer surface is enhanced and/or preserved and this is particularly advantageous on lift-off.Type: GrantFiled: June 2, 1976Date of Patent: June 14, 1977Assignee: International Business Machines CorporationInventors: Donald Harlem Apgar, Richard Fleming Kilburn
