  • Patent number: 8817878
Abstract: Certain aspects of a method and system for motion estimation around a fixed reference vector using a pivot pixel approach may include pivoting each of the plurality of pixels in an output picture to perform a sub-pixel search in a plurality of directions around a reference vector. A plurality of cost values may be calculated for performing motion compensation for a plurality of pixels in the output picture along a plurality of directions around the reference vector. A motion vector may be generated corresponding to the least calculated cost for each pixel in the output picture based on the calculated plurality of cost values.

  • Patent number: 8749703
Abstract: A motion judder cancellation system may convert a source frame rate to an output frame rate. A repetition pattern within a sequence of source frames may be determined. Temporal position for output frames within a sequence may be based on a source frame position and a source frame interval fraction. An image blend mode such as motion vector interpolation may be determined for each output frame. Temporal position and/or image blend mode may be modified. Accordingly, motion judder and/or visible interpolation artifacts may be modified. Output frames may be generated based on the determined or modified image blend mode and/or the determined or modified temporal position of output frames. The output frames may be spaced temporally at even intervals or spacing. Frame rate may be increased and one or more repeated frames within a sequence of frames may be inserted. Generation of output frames may be programmed.

  • Publication number: 20140078390
Abstract: Systems and methods are provided for converting an interlaced video to a slower video rate. A method for video rate conversion may include receiving an input interlaced video having a field rate, and deinterlacing the input interlaced video at the field rate to produce a first sequence of frames corresponding to a first frame rate. The method may also include dropping frames from the first sequence of frames to produce a second sequence of frames corresponding to a second frame rate, wherein the second frame rate is slower than the first frame rate. If a progressive video output is desired, then the second sequence of frames may be used for the progressive video output. If an interlaced video output is desired, then the second sequence of frames may be interlaced into a sequence of fields corresponding to a field rate slower than the field rate of the input interlaced video.

  • Patent number: 8345148
Abstract: Certain aspects of a method and system for inverse telecine and scene change detection of progressive video may include determining a cadence, for example, 3:2 or 2:2 pulldown, and phase of received progressive input pictures. A difference between two or more consecutive received progressive input pictures may be determined. The motion compensation of a plurality of output pictures may be controlled based on the determined cadence, phase and difference between two or more consecutive received progressive input pictures. The system may be enabled to determine repeated pictures and scene changes. The motion compensation of output pictures may be stopped during detected scene changes.

  • Publication number: 20120191273
Abstract: An automated aircraft flight data and delivery management system and method operates in a normal state and a demand state. The demand state may be self-initiated or manually-initiated, and may be triggered during situations which include but are not limited to situations when the aircraft is in a potential or confirmed emergency situation. Data transmission increases in intensity when the system is in a demand state.

  • Patent number: 8035748
Abstract: Herein described is a method and system for generating an improved video output when deinterlacing pull-down video. The improvement results from reducing cross-chroma artifacts. In a representative embodiment, the method comprises first computing an adjusted chroma of a present pixel from a present top field or present bottom field of film sourced video as a function of an execution stage field phase. The method further comprises second computing a chroma of an absent pixel vertically adjacent to the present pixel, wherein the second computing is performed as a function of the execution stage field phase. In a representative embodiment, a deinterlacer video engine and a local storage circuitry process the 3:2 pull-down video by applying various equations for performing the first computing and the second computing. An adjusted chroma and an absent pixel chroma is computed for each present pixel at each execution stage field phase.

  • Patent number: 7746408
Abstract: Herein described is a system and method for improving the appearance of video by generating an improved 4:2:2 chroma. The system comprises a 4:2:2 to 4:2:0 chroma regenerator that regenerates 4:2:0 chroma given a received 4:2:2 chroma, and a 4:2:0 to 4:2:2 chroma generator that weaves and interpolates the regenerated 4:2:0 chroma to yield an adjusted 4:2:2 chroma. The system further comprises a blending system used for blending the adjusted 4:2:2 chroma with the received 4:2:2 chroma based on a control input provided by a motion indication signal. The method comprises regenerating a 4:2:0 chroma from a received 4:2:2 chroma using an algorithm. The method further comprises generating an adjusted 4:2:2 chroma using the regenerated 4:2:0 chroma using another algorithm. The method further comprises blending the adjusted 4:2:2 chroma with the received 4:2:2 chroma to generate an improved 4:2:2 chroma.

  • Patent number: 7557861
Abstract: Aspects of the present invention may be found in a system and method to more effectively detect and correct irregularities of video in a pull-down video signal, such as a 3:2 (or 2:2) pull-down video signal. Various aspects of the present invention provide a system and method to determine when the cadence of pull-down video has changed. This may occur, for example, when a bad-edit is encountered in the pull-down video. Other aspects of the present invention may be found in a system and method of detecting and correcting distortion or artifacts occurring at the pixel level. The distortion or artifacts are detected and corrected at a per-pixel level while performing a reverse pull-down of the video signal. Finally, aspects of the invention allow the automatic enabling of per-pixel correction when performing a reverse 3:2 directed weave. A computed variable is used to automatically activate the per-pixel correction.
