  • Patent number: 8975596
Abstract: Water purifying drink containers include a liquid container, a cap assembly removably coupled to the liquid container, and a purification assembly that emits ultraviolet (UV) light in the germicidal spectrum to purify a volume of drink liquid held in the liquid container. In some embodiments, the purification assembly includes a UV bulb positioned within a recess of the cap assembly facing the internal compartment of the liquid container. In some embodiments, the UV bulb further emits light in the visible spectrum and the drink container includes an indicator that becomes illuminated with visible light to indicate to a user when the UV bulb is emitting UV light.

  • Patent number: 8877752
Abstract: Provided are 4(1H)-quinolone derivatives effective in inhibiting or eliminating the viability of at least one of the stages in the life-cycle of the malarial parasite, and to show a reduced propensity to induce resistance to the compound by the target parasite. In particular, the compounds can be derivatives of phenoxyethoxy-quinolones, and including, but not only, 7-(2-phenoxyethoxy)quinolin derivatives. These compounds may be administered by themselves, with at least one other derivative compound, or with other antimalarial compounds, to an animal or human subject. The therapeutic compositions can be and formulated to reduce the extent of a Plasmodium infection in the recipient subject, or to reduce the likelihood of the onset or establishment of a Plasmodium infection if administered prior to the parasite contacting the subject. The therapeutic compositions can be formulated to provide an effective single dose amount of an antimalarial compound or multiple doses for administering over a period of time.

  • Publication number: 20140290689
Abstract: A hair treatment process for providing dispersed colors by light diffraction including (a) coating the hair with a material comprising a polymer, (b) pressing the hair with a pressing device including one or more surfaces, and (c) forming a secondary nanostructured surface pattern on the hair that is complementary to the primary nanostructured surface pattern on the one or more surfaces of the pressing device. The secondary nanostructured surface pattern diffracts light into dispersed colors that are visible on the hair. The section of the hair is pressed with the pressing device for from about 1 to 55 seconds. The polymer has a glass transition temperature from about 55° C. to about 90° C. The one or more surfaces include a primary nanostructured surface pattern.

  • Publication number: 20140278517
Abstract: A software application that displays clinical entities and the relationships between them allows a user to perform a dynamic graph analysis. A data repository contains information on different clinical entities and the relationships between those clinical entities. The user can select an initial set from those clinical entities and can select a comparison set from those clinical entities. The selected clinical entities are displayed as nodes on a graphic user interface (GUI), and their relationships are displayed as links amongst those nodes on the GUI. The user can graphically rearrange the nodes through the GUI in order to reveal patterns and optimizations amongst those nodes. The software application also graphically integrates organization features into the GUI, which allows the user to further analyze the nodes.

  • Patent number: 8811967
Abstract: A technique is disclosed that changes one or more properties of a user interface at a telecommunications terminal based on an incoming call. When a first caller calls the telephone number of the terminal directly and the terminal answers the call, the terminal presents the direct call to the user through a first user interface. When a second caller calls a telephone number that is associated with a data-processing system and the call is then redirected to the terminal, the terminal presents the redirected call to the user through a second user interface. The telecommunications terminal can be a cell phone that belongs to a user, and the data-processing system can be a private branch exchange that serves an office enterprise network that the user belongs to, wherein the private branch exchange extends the call to the user's cell phone when the user is out of the office.

  • Patent number: 8757131
Abstract: With reference to FIG. 3, the present invention provides a fluid injector (10) which functions as a positive displacement pump and comprises: a housing (12) in which a piston chamber is formed; a piston (11) which reciprocates in the piston chamber to define therewith a variable volume fluid pumping chamber; a one-way inlet valve (32) which allows flow of fluid into the pumping chamber from a fluid inlet; and a one-way outlet valve (25, 26, 27, 28, 29) which allows flow of fluid out of the pumping chamber to a fluid outlet (31). In operation of the injector the piston (11) cyclically moves to increase volume of the pumping chamber and draw fluid into the pumping chamber via the one-way inlet valve (32) and then the piston moves to decrease volume of the pumping chamber and expel fluid from the pumping chamber via the one-way outlet valve (25, 26, 27, 28, 29).

  • Publication number: 20140134569
Abstract: The FDA approved toothpaste sodium fluoride, organic powders and aqueous slurry toothpaste formula dental treatment systems are designed to safely clean teeth by physico-chemical means contrasted with highly fluid water picks and toothbrush bristles that can't always reach hard to clean areas, between teeth, and inside molars and crowns. Once tartar and plaque set on teeth they are increasingly more difficult to remove with water picks, dental floss, and toothbrush bristles alone that simply can't remove stubborn residues from many hidden and hard to reach areas of your teeth. The FDA approved toothpaste sodium fluoride, organic powders and aqueous slurry toothpaste formula free flow dental treatment systems subject to the approval of the American Dental Association ADA are designed to safely clean teeth gently with clinical specifications of pressurized air of fine toothpaste powders and clinical specifications of aqueous slurry toothpaste formula of highly specialized shape and rotating nozzles.

  • Publication number: 20140123432
Abstract: An apparatus for removing particulate-carrying air from a moving web. The moving web has a first side and a second side. The apparatus includes a NACA duct positioned in a non-contacting relationship on a first side of the moving web, and at least partially submerged in a particulate-carrying boundary layer of the moving web. The NACA duct can have an intake opening and an exhaust opening such that when the intake opening is submerged in the boundary layer at least a portion of the particulate-carrying air from the boundary layer enters the intake opening and exits the exhaust opening, thereby scavenging particulate-carrying air from said boundary layer.
