  • Patent number: 5618252
Abstract: Apparatus is disclosed for producing discrete packages which can be individually varied in length so that they can be used for packaging articles such as cuts of meat which vary in length. The apparatus comprises drive rolls for feeding a flat tube of plastics packaging material through a cut off device. The apparatus may also comprise a heat sealing device (to form the tube into a bag) and a blower head combined with a suction device which opens the leading portion of the bag to facilitate the placing of an article in the bag. A proximity sensor is provided adjacent the cut off device and immobilizes the drive rolls when it detects the arrival of a loading portion. In one form of the apparatus the sensor is mounted on a movable carriage which can be quickly moved by hand or by a ram.

  • Patent number: 4817245
Abstract: The present invention provides a meat saw for simultaneously making multiple cuts in a piece of meat and a process for cutting a piece of meat. The meat saw includes a base and a saw table supported by the base. The saw table is adapted to support the piece of meat to be sawn and contains a plurality of elongated, generally parallel apertures. A restraining member holds the piece of meat against the saw table. The meat saw further includes a plurality of spaced rotary saw blades mounted on a common rotatable shaft, the shaft being located beneath the saw table. The shaft is movably mounted on the base so that the position of the shaft relative to the saw table is continuously adjustable. The position of the shaft can be adjusted from a lower position, in which the blades do not extend above the saw table, to an upper position in which the blades extend through the apertures in the saw table and above the saw table.

  • Patent number: 4793025
Abstract: An apparatus for processing either a fresh or frozen piece of meat, in particular for frenching a rack of lamb. A pair of chain conveyers each incorporating teeth are mounted in adjacent spaced apart relationship on a bench. A piece of meat is transported along by and between the conveyer chains with the teeth thereof gripping the meat. The piece of meat is orientated on the conveyer to dispose a required section thereof to a cutting zone. At a first cutting station liquid jet cutting means are located to either side of the path of the meat to direct a liquid jet onto the predetermined section and cut thereinto. At a second cutting station a liquid jet stripping means is provided to remove the previously cut meat.
