  • Patent number: 5658129
Abstract: A novelty ceiling fan is provided having an electric fan motor with separate stationary members and rotating surfaces, and a plurality of radially extending blades being secured to the one of the rotating surfaces. The ceiling fan also includes a tubular downrod for pivotally suspending the ceiling fan from a ceiling, and at least one electrical switch for selectively controlling the operation of the fan motor. A U-shaped mounting bracket is provided, securable to one of the stationary members of the fan motor, for detachably connecting a decorative globe to the fan motor substantially enclosing at least the lower and side surfaces. The decorative globe has upper and lower portions with the upper portion being comprised of a generally cylindrical side wall which defines an upper opening. The lower portion is selectively configured to generally depict conventional features of a novelty or cartoon character such as a bear head, the conventional features including a head, eyes, ears, a nose, a mouth and cheeks.

  • Patent number: 5462412
Abstract: A ceiling fan is disclosed comprising a motor having a stator with a top portion and a bottom portion and a rotor having a bottom portion, a down rod secured to the top portion of the stator for suspending the motor from the ceiling, a motor housing enclosing at least a portion of the motor, at least one switch for selectively controlling the operation of the motor, a plurality of blades removably securable by suitable fastening devices to the bottom portion of the rotor, and a switch housing for containing at least one switch securable to the bottom portion of the stator, an upper edge portion of the switch housing being operable to conceal from view at least a portion of the fastening devices used to secure the blades to the motor.

  • Patent number: 5222864
Abstract: A ceiling fan is provided, having an electric motor with separate stationary and rotating members, the outer extremities of the rotating member being defined by upper, lower, and side surfaces, with a plurality of radially extending blades being secured to the upper surface. The ceiling fan also includes a tube member securable to the stationary member of the motor for pivotally suspending the ceiling fan from the ceiling, and at least one electrical switch for selectively controlling the operation of the motor. A unitary housing is provided, securable to the stationary member of the motor, for enclosing at least the lower and side surfaces of the motor in a first compartment thereof, and enclosing the electrical switch in a second compartment thereof.

  • Patent number: 4733378
Abstract: An active, low-profile hydrophone for use in aquatic environments having substantially turbulent flow conditions. The hydrophone is generally pisciform such that it may lie substantially flat on the water bottom and oriented in the current so as to reduce ambient noise associated with the turbulent flow. The enclosed sensors are oriented such that they are insensitive to acceleration and are coupled to a unity gain amplifier network also contained within the hydrophone.

  • Patent number: 4511310
Abstract: An arrangement for isolating engine noises and vibrations or the like from the blades of a ceiling fan include a blade-mounting ring, to which the blade irons are directly attached, and a plurality of elastomeric grommets or bushings carried on the ring. Partially threaded studs extend through the grommets and into the rotor cage to suspend the blade-mounting ring slightly below the rotor cage by the transfer of weight of the blades through the rubber grommets. The blade-iron feet enclose the grommets and prevent the inadvertent withdrawal of the stud members therefrom.

  • Patent number: 4396352
Abstract: Two position fan blade attachments or blade iron assemblies for sealing fans provide for the individual adjustment of the paddle-type blades into two preselected angular positions providing for either a downward or upward flow of air. The blade attachments provide detents or interengaging locking cams which are maintained in either one of the preselected positions by a spring and by the centrifugal force applied to the blade. In one embodiment, the interengaging structure includes a leaf spring which has two recesses or openings engageable with a ball. In another embodiment pairs of inclined ramps are mutually engageable with corresponding pairs of camming recesses.
