  • Publication number: 20060036288
Abstract: This document discusses, among other things, a combination pacer/defibrillator that is tailored for bradycardia patients. In one example, its shock-delivery specificity exceeds its sensitivity to shockable ventricular tachyarrhythmias. In another example, its specificity exceeds 95%, or 99%, or even 99.5%. Sensitivity is programmed to a high desired sensitivity value, but only if it can be done without decreasing the specificity below the desired specificity threshold value. This can be conceptualized as “avoiding at all costs” delivering false shocks, even at the expense of failing to deliver a shock to a treatable ventricular tachyarrhythmia. Specificity enhancements include, among other things, inhibiting shock delivery when the patient is breathing or not supine, using multiple channels or a high rate VT/VF detection threshold.

  • Publication number: 20060027591
Abstract: The present invention provides a container for dispensing individual paper products that includes a housing having side walls defining an interior area for receiving a plurality of paper products, wherein one of the side walls defines a slot. The housing further includes a means for urging paper products having a first portion external to the housing and a second portion extending through the slot into the interior area of the housing. The container may be included in a system for dispensing individual paper products that further includes a cartridge containing paper products within the container. The cartridge defines a dispensing opening and a second slot wherein the second portion of the means for urging paper products extends through the second slot into the interior area of the cartridge to contact the paper products and urge the paper products toward the dispensing opening.

  • Publication number: 20050107839
Abstract: An implantable cardiac monitor upgradeable to an implantable pacemaker or an implantable cardiac resynchronization device allows the use of a single implantable medical device for monitoring cardiac conditions and later, if needed, for cardiac pacing. The implantable medical device includes a circuit that can be configured, by programming through an external programmer, to either the implantable cardiac monitor or the implantable pacemaker. The implantable medical device is first configured to and used as the implantable cardiac monitor for acquisition of physiological data indicative of a need for a pacing therapy. If the pacing therapy is to follow, the implantable medical device is reconfigured from the implantable cardiac monitor to the implantable pacemaker, thus eliminating the need of using two implantable medical devices.

  • Publication number: 20050096703
Abstract: An implantable cardiac rhythm management device for delivering anti-tachyarrhythmia therapy is provided with a temporary disablement feature so that the delivery of anti-tachyarrhythmia therapy may be conveniently disabled and re-enabled. The feature is particularly useful to patients who are undergoing imaging procedures or surgical procedures where electro-cauterizing instruments may cause inadvertent triggering of cardioversion/defibrillation shocks and/or anti-tachycardia pacing.

  • Publication number: 20050010254
Abstract: An implantable cardiac rhythm management device is programmed and configured to detect a death event. When such an event is detected, the device ceases recording of physiological data, thus preserving in the device's memory the data collected at and shortly before the time of death. A death event may be detected by detecting of an absence of intrinsic electrical activity in the patient's heart and a lack of an evoked response to a predetermined number of pacing pulses.

  • Publication number: 20050004615
Abstract: Methods and systems for implantable cardiac monitors reconfigurable to cardiac therapy devices. A device includes a housing with electrodes configured for cardiac activity sensing when the device is operated in monitoring mode, and sensing and energy delivery when operated in an energy delivery mode. A header may be configured to receive a cardiac lead, and may be associated with a switch to switch the device between monitoring and therapy modes in response to connecting one or more leads to the header. The device may include a transceiver that transmits the contents of the memory to a patient-external device. A method involves providing an implantable cardiac device configured to operate in a first mode as a loop recorder for monitoring cardiac activity and storing selected cardiac events, and operating in the second mode to monitor cardiac activity and provide cardiac stimulation therapy when the second mode is enabled.

  • Publication number: 20040107190
Abstract: An agent in a knowledge management system automatically manages profile terms in a user profile by selecting certain terms in a private portion of the user profile and moving the selected terms to a public portion of the profile. Additionally, the selected terms can be further filtered to determine which will be moved. The owner of the user profile also may specify whether a particular term is always moved, never moved, or moved only when the user is alerted that the term is selected and the owner chooses to move the term.

  • Patent number: 6708535
Abstract: A computer lock with a locking plate and protruding hook joined to a cylindrical assembly wherein the hook is inserted into a computer chassis security slot. The locking plate interacts with grooves within the cylindrical assembly to position and hold the protruding hook longitudinally within the security slot. A lockable cable engages the cylindrical assembly. The cable is secured to a fixed object to prevent the computer from being stolen or removed from a fixed location.

  • Patent number: 6370427
Abstract: Device and method are disclosed in which leads with pacing and defibrillating electrodes are implanted into both the right and left ventricles of a patient's heart to enable simultaneous pacing of both ventricles to reduce the width of the QRS complex of the patient's cardiac activity to a more normal duration, and, when appropriate, to apply electrical shock waveforms to both ventricles simultaneously for lower energy defibrillation of the ventricles. In applying the defibrillation therapy, the defibrillating electrode in the left ventricle may be used as the anode and the defibrillating electrode in the right ventricle may be used as the cathode, or both ventricular defibrillating electrodes may be the anode and the metal case in which the shock waveform generator is implanted may be the cathode.

  • Patent number: 6126128
Abstract: A mounting bracket for attaching a cellular phone base station to a fixed object includes adjustment devices so that the base station may be accurately directed, or aimed, after installation. The bracket is C-shaped and provides a rigidifying skeletal frame for an electrical box housing the base station. By this arrangement, the box can be constructed relatively smaller and lighter than previously known boxes for such base stations. The bracket also includes structural features which cooperate with the box to enable the box to be installed by a single service technician.
