  • Publication number: 20020116377
Abstract: Methods and apparatus for operating on a non-text (voice or fax) message include for each of a number of voice messages, searching each voice message for signal samples having one of a plurality of sets of pre-defined characteristics (such as any seven or ten digit number which is then assumed to be a telephone number). For each signal sample found to have one of the sets of pre-defined characteristics, the found signal sample is associated with an equivalent text string and this text string is stored in an envelope for the message. Based on a user input, the messages may be searched for a given text string and on finding a message envelope containing the given text string, such message may be operated upon.

  • Patent number: 6236716
Abstract: A call parking and paging system includes a call parking entity and a paging entity. The call parking entity receives a call and automatically parks the call, in some operations against a designated resource. The paging entity provides a page based upon an intended recipient of the call. Upon receiving a response to the page, the call parking and paging system may then assist in delivering the parked call. The call parking and paging system may be supported by a PBX, by a telephone system central exchange or by another communication system. Additional features may include a voice processing system, a validation entity, a directory system, a messaging system and an information database. • Patent number: 6181932
Abstract: A user terminal is registered with a satellite communications system including a plurality of satellite spot beam transmitters; wherein each of the satellite spot beam transmitters defines a respective spot beam. A periodic oscillation of two adjacent satellite spot beam transmitters results in a change of geographic coverage for the respective adjacent spot beams so that the user terminal can be alternatingly covered by the first and second spot beams when the user terminal is stationary. Upon determining that the user terminal is alternatingly covered by the first and second spot beams, the user terminal is registered with a spot beam pair for both the first and second adjacent spot beams and the spot beam pair registration is stored in the user terminal memory. Communications operations between the user terminal and the satellite communications system may be terminated and later re-established, whereupon the user terminal reregisters with the spot beam pair registration stored in memory.

  • Patent number: 6033071
Abstract: Methods for measuring the distance between an eye and a lens spaced apart from the eye include passing an elongated tubular structure between the eye and the lens, and causing a length of a wire member to pass out of the opening at a distal end of the elongated tubular structure. The length of the wire member extending out of the opening is selected so that the combination of the elongated tubular structure and the wire member extending out of the opening is located in close proximity to the eye and contacts the lens. This length of wire member extending out of the distal end is correlatable to the distance between the eye and the lens. Apparatus for providing such measurements are included.

  • Patent number: 5907371
Abstract: Connector switch apparatus which can provide either a cable or satellite television signal or a ghost-free off-air television signal. The apparatus obtains the cable or satellite television signal from a cable or satellite tuner, which can be included in the apparatus; and includes a television tuning device for producing a ghost-free off-air television signal, and a switch which provides either of those signals. The television tuning device employs use of antenna directionality control and ghost cancellation to produce a ghost-free off-air television signal. In particular, the television tuning device obtains an off-air television signal from a antenna, which may or may not be included therein, whose directionality can be changed to change reception quality of a received off-air television signal; and includes a baseband ghost cancellation unit which can perform baseband ghost cancellation.

  • Patent number: 5887160
Abstract: A microprocessor synchronously executes instructions, the instructions including integer instructions for performing integer operations and floating point instructions for performing real number operations. An instruction pipeline has a plurality of successive stages for synchronously executing each of the instructions in parallel, with integer and floating point instructions being intermixed in the pipeline. Each of the plurality of successive stages simultaneously operates on a different one of the instructions. An integer unit executes the integer instructions and forms an integer result based on an integer operation performed on at least one integer operand or integer result. A floating point unit executes the floating point instructions and forms a floating point result based on one such floating point operation performed on at least one floating point operand or floating point result.
