  • Patent number: 8186393
Abstract: A nurse vehicle carries a supply of liquid chemicals or fertilizer for being applied by a sprayer vehicle. A fluid transfer conduit of the nurse vehicle has an end defined by a receptacle that is selectively connected to a complementary dimensioned insert defining an end of a fluid intake conduit of the sprayer vehicle. The receptacle and insert define a coupler assembly that includes an inflatable seal that surrounds the insert and locks the insert and receptacle together when inflated. Flow through the coupler assembly is controlled by first and second poppet valves, which are normally closed preventing flow through valve bodies of the receptacle and insert. Selective inflation of the seal and opening and closing of the poppet valves is automatically controlled in accordance with sequencing logic of an electronic controller so the seal is inflated before the valves are opened and remains inflated until the valves are closed.

  • Patent number: 8075282
Abstract: An agricultural sprayer includes a centrifugal pump used for transferring fluid from a nurse tank to fill the sprayer tank. It is sometimes required that the centrifugal pump be primed in order to perform the transfer of fluid and this priming is done by creating a vacuum in a priming line that is connected to a suction line extending between an inlet of the pump and to a discharge line of the nurse tank, with the vacuum being caused by routing a flow of compressed air through a venturi having its throat coupled to the priming line.

  • Patent number: 7954513
Abstract: A regulator valve includes an inlet coupled for receiving a spray solution delivered by a fixed displacement pump coupled to a solution tank. Located in the valve body so as to divide the solution received at the inlet between a bypass or tank port of the regulator valve, and a boom port is a ball valve in the form of a hollow sphere having a first circular opening in register with said inlet, a second circular opening in register with said boom port and an elongate, wedge-shaped opening in register with said bypass port. The ball valve is mounted for rotation about an axis which is coaxial with the first circular opening and includes a stem coupled to an electric motor for actuating the valve, the motor being coupled for receiving a control signal for causing the motor to position the ball for dividing the flow so as to achieve a desired solution application rate.

  • Publication number: 20100018608
Abstract: A sprayer nurse vehicle includes an arm arrangement which carries a coupler section that is connected to the discharge end of a fluid transfer conduit that extends from the nurse tank carried by the vehicle. The arm arrangement is constructed so that it may be extended outwardly from the nurse vehicle and moved vertically and laterally. An outer end of the arm arrangement is provided with a fluid coupler section mounting bracket that permits the coupler section to be swiveled about an upright axis and tilted about a transverse axis. A torsion bar is arranged along the transverse axis and is preloaded to counterbalance the weight of the hose and liquid contained therein so as to minimize the effort an operator must exert to tilt the fluid coupler section.

  • Publication number: 20100019485
Abstract: A nurse vehicle carries a supply of chemicals or fertilizer in fluid form for being applied to a crop and/or field by using a sprayer vehicle. A coupler assembly for selectively connecting a fluid transfer conduit of the nurse vehicle to a sprayer vehicle fluid intake conduit includes a receptacle connected to the transfer conduit, and a complementary dimensioned insert dimensioned for being received in the receptacle. An inflatable seal surrounds the insert and locks the insert and receptacle together when inflated. Flow of fluid through the insert and receptacle is respectively controlled by first and second poppet valves, which are normally spring biased to closed positions preventing flow through the bodies. An extensible and retractable valve actuator is provided for selectively opening the poppet valves.

  • Patent number: 6892124
Abstract: An activating portion on one section of an adjustable wheel assembly triggers a proximity switch on a vehicle such as a field sprayer to provide a signal indicative of wheel tread. The signal is sent to a controller which controls wheel tread adjustment. Two or more assemblies may be adjusted simultaneously reduce adjustment time. The operator control is located in the vehicle cab for entering wheel spacings, providing an indication of the actual spacing and individual wheel position, and providing error and warning messages. An interlock system prevents axle telescoping unless certain vehicle conditions are satisfied, such as the vehicle speed being below a preselected point and vehicle being in the field mode.

  • Patent number: 6776355
Abstract: A sprayer switching control system includes toggle switch structure incorporated into the main control handle of the sprayer and toggling spray sections sequentially so that each section changes condition in turn as the switch structure is operated. A reset switch located adjacent the toggle switch structure is operable to reset all the sections to a preselected operating condition. A first switch toggles section condition sequentially in a first direction along the sprayer boom, while operating a second switch reverses the direction. Such toggle operation is simple and easy to learn, and can be implemented without removing the hand from the control handle. To accommodate special skip patterns and shut off unused boom sections, individual section control switches mounted away from the handle to avoid handle clutter permit selective disabling any one or more of the spray sections.

  • Patent number: 6402051
Abstract: A large sprayer boom includes an inner section pivotally supported from a frame for movement between an outwardly extended working position and a folded transport position by an inner fold cylinder located at a first hinge point. The boom includes an outer section pivotally connected to the outer end of the inner boom at a second hinge point and movable relative to the inner section between folded and unfolded positions by an outer fold cylinder. Each of the cylinders includes an internally mounted cylinder position sensor protected from the harsh environment encountered by an agricultural implement. The switches are connected to a fold sequence circuit which includes operator switches located adjacent the main sprayer controller switches in the sprayer cab so the operator does not have to turn away from his normal operating position to activate the folding or unfolding cycle.
