    Abstract: A system and method for facilitating conversation. In particular, the system discloses a handheld device suitable for use in engaging conversation. The device includes a data store for storing a plurality of conversation starters. The plurality of conversation starters is associated with a theme. The device includes a selector that is associated with a subset of the plurality of conversation starters. The subset defines a category of conversation starters consistent with the theme. The device includes a processor configured to receive and acknowledge activation of the selector. Upon activation, the processor selects a conversation starter of the subset of the plurality of conversation starters, as a selected conversation starter. A communicator, such as a speaker, is included for presenting the selected conversation starter.
