  • Publication number: 20150067754
Abstract: A system for and method of transmitting audio and visual programming content, by identifying an amount of broadcast transmission capacity available for transmitting the content to one or more users. The content is separated into at least first and second portions based on user demand for the content and/or the identified available broadcast transmission capacity. The first portion of the content is transmitted, to a receiver/STB associated with at least one of the users, using the identified broadcast transmission capacity; and the second portion of the content is transmitted to the receiver using transmission other than broadcast transmission. The content can include nonlinear content. Transmission other than broadcast transmission can include unicast transmission, which can be in response to a user request and/or an initiation by a server. The received nonlinear content can be stored at the receiver for play back at a time different from the time of transmission.

  • Patent number: 8904074
Abstract: The invention described herein provides a system and method for distributing and applying a configuration file from a master device (102) to a slave device (104) in a distributed control system (100). According to aspects of the invention, a configuration file is saved at a master device (102) and distributed to the slave device (104) via the data payload of a fieldbus protocol, such as the CANopen protocol. Aspects of the present invention may be used to further configure an I/O island or sub-network (108) that is attached to the slave device (104). Further aspects of the present invention may be used to repair or replace failed devices in a distributed control system (100).

  • Patent number: 8634325
Abstract: Each device in an industrial automation system network or other network may have its own associated one or more performance characteristics, such as response time and/or reset time of the network device. Data may be stored representing a plurality of performance characteristics each associated with a different one of a plurality of devices in the network including a first device and a second device. The stored data may be retrieved, representing the performance characteristic of the second device. The first device may communicate over the network with the second device in accordance with the performance characteristic of the second device.

  • Publication number: 20130198408
Abstract: An enhanced Internet Protocol (IP) parameter device may aid in configuring and/or determining the IP parameters of a device. The enhanced IP parameter device may first wait for a message requesting a network address from the device. This message may be sent using a variety of communication protocols, including Bootstrap Protocol (BOOTP) and Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP). Once this message is received, a handshaking procedure may be completed and the enhanced IP parameter device may then transmit IP parameters to the device. Alternatively, the device may also transmit a message using Address Resolution Protocol (ARP) to allow the enhanced IP parameter device to determine the IP address assigned to the device. Finally, if the device does not transmit any message, the enhanced IP parameter device may search a predetermined range of IP addresses or use Inverse Address Resolution Protocol (IARP) or Reverse Address Resolution Protocol (RARP).

  • Publication number: 20120331515
Abstract: Methods and apparatuses for programming content reconstruction in a content delivery system are described. In one embodiment, a method to repair programming content at a receiver controller includes receiving a programming content on the receiver controller from a broadcast transmission; identifying, if present, a portion of the programming content received on the receiver controller that is corrupted; determining in a broadband network, other servers and receiver controllers connected to the broadband network that have an uncorrupted version of the corrupted portion of the programming content; sending a request to one of the other servers and receiver controllers for the uncorrupted version of the corrupted portion of the programming content and receiving the uncorrupted version of the corrupted portion of the programming content from the one of the other servers and receiver controllers. Other embodiments are also described.
