Patent number: 10129417Abstract: The disclosed embodiments provide a system that performs document scanning. The system includes a scanner and a computing device. To enable detection of the computing device in proximity to the scanner, the computing device may be configured to advertise a scan-receiving capability using a discovery protocol. Next, the scanner may use the discovery protocol to identify a set of computing devices in proximity to the scanner, including the computing device. The scanner may then provide the set of computing devices to a user of the scanner and obtain, from the user of the scanner, a selection of the computing device as a recipient of the scanned document. Finally, the scanner may send the scanned document to the computing device over a network connection with the computing device.Type: GrantFiled: February 1, 2012Date of Patent: November 13, 2018Assignee: Apple Inc.Inventors: Michael R. Patent number: 9298401Abstract: The disclosed embodiments provide a system that facilitates the execution of a print job. During operation, the system obtains print data and a set of job options for the print job, wherein the print data is associated with a document format that is not supported by a printing protocol used to perform the print job. Next, the system obtains a set of document-processing capabilities associated with the document format from a printer associated with the print job. Finally, the system configures the print job based on the job options and the document-processing capabilities without converting the print data into a different document format that is supported by the printing protocol.Type: GrantFiled: February 3, 2012Date of Patent: March 29, 2016Assignee: Apple Inc.Inventors: Richard Blanchard, Jr., David Gelphman, Howard A. Patent number: 8818877Abstract: Presenting system and device conditions and purchasing options for components compatible with hardware devices of a computer system. In one aspect, an operating system determines the identity of a hardware device in communication with the operating system, communicates over a network to receive current purchasing information related to the hardware device, and displays components that can be selected for purchase and used with the hardware device. Another aspect provides a selectable user interface control for display in a graphical user interface that indicates a new operating condition of the computer system, different from a prior operating condition, by displaying a different appearance of the control. One embodiment has a new operating condition occurring when a component of a hardware device is within a predetermined threshold of requiring replacement, refilling, or supplementation.Type: GrantFiled: August 12, 2005Date of Patent: August 26, 2014Assignee: Apple Inc.Inventors: Richard Blanchard, Jr., Himanshu Gupta, Steven P. Patent number: 8724146Abstract: This is directed to systems, methods, and computer-readable media for defining print settings. In some cases, particular motions of the device can be associated with print settings. In a print settings mode, when the electronic device detects a motion of the device, the device can identify a print setting associated with the detected motion. In some cases, a print setting can instead or in addition be defined in response to receiving an input from an input interface, wherein the input is independent from a displayed option. To print the content, the content and the defined print settings can be provided to a printer system.Type: GrantFiled: March 28, 2011Date of Patent: May 13, 2014Assignee: Apple Inc.Inventors: Howard A. Patent number: 8360156Abstract: A well bore fluid recovery system and method is disclosed for recovering a column of well bore fluid within a stand of casing before cutting the casing. The recovery system relates to a system for preventing fluids from being spilled when casing is being finished for a well bore. After being run the casing must be cut and finished at an appropriate level to install rig equipment such as blow out preventers along with other equipment. However, because of earlier operations, the entire length of casing is typically filled with drilling fluid. Depending on conditions, the length of casing which is to be cut and removed may therefore over a 100-foot (27.4 meter) column of drilling fluid therein. The drilling fluid in this section must be properly drained before the casing is cut and removed.Type: GrantFiled: April 19, 2011Date of Patent: January 29, 2013Assignee: Hudson Services, Inc.Inventors: Richard Blanchard, Jr., Sandra Remedies, John Rucker, Sr.
