  • Publication number: 20050080897
Abstract: A method for using a utility at an end user device is provided. The method includes assigning an elevated access right to a remote user identifier and a limited access right to an end user identifier, where the limited access right prevents access to the utility at the end user device. The utility is accessed at the end user device using the remote user identifier, where the utility allows the remote user identifier to select an administrative tool at the end user device. The administrative tool is launched according to the elevated access right while the limited access right of the end user identifier is maintained. At least one administrative task is performed at the end user device using the administrative tool.

  • Publication number: 20040117414
Abstract: Methods and systems for updating operating systems are disclosed. A computer includes a disk drive that stores an operating system to be updated. The computer creates a backup image of a first partition of the disk drive, then deletes the first partition to create free space on the disk drive. The computer also places an image of a maintenance operating system into the free space, wherein the maintenance operating system is operable to manage an operating system update. Thereafter, the computer updates the stored operating system under control of the maintenance operating system.

  • Publication number: 20040027310
Abstract: A mounting (1) comprises a transparent spherical shell (2), which holds a reflective mirror (4) for collection and concentration of radiation flux. A second membrane (7) is affixed to maintain a pressure differential across the two approximate hemi-spheres separate by the mirror (4). A quantity of water (13) is contained within the shell (2) acting as ballast. The lower portion of the shell (2) rests on a toroid (9), which is affixed to a base (10). Both the toroid and the vessel created by the inside surface of the toroid (9) and base (10) is filled with water (11,12). The shell (2) is buoyantly supported within the vessel by the water (12,13) while being restrained within the boundaries of the toroid (9) and base (10) but free for rotational movement as required to track the sun.

  • Publication number: 20030226059
Abstract: Systems and methods consistent with the present invention provide for remote tracking of the reboot status for a plurality of user terminals. Each user terminal runs a start-up routine capable of creating a record of information about the terminal, including reboot status. The record of information is stored in log file on a file server, along with the records of information from other user terminals. A collection routine executed by a central server collects the log files from the file servers and stores the records in a database. Based on the records stored in the database, various status reports may be generated that reflect, among other things, a reboot status associated with the user terminals over a predetermined period of time.

  • Publication number: 20030225746
Abstract: Methods and systems consistent with the present invention track assets by collecting information from assets. Information for tracking assets is collected based on a query. The person creating the query specifies a lifetime, a scope, and one or more parameters for collecting the information. The lifetime indicates a period of time for maintaining the results of the query in storage. When the lifetime expires, the results of the query are removed from the storage. When a query is created, a server updates a query index and creates temporary storage space for the query's results. Periodically, the client polls the server and accesses the query index to determine whether any queries are pending for that client. The client collects the information from the appropriate assets and provides the results to the server. The server then stores the results in the temporary storage space.
