    Abstract: The invention provides an exemplary method for restocking pharmaceutical or medical supply items into a dispensing unit having a processor, with at least some of the pharmaceutical or medical supply items being held in removable liners having a plurality of receptacles. According to the method, a request is entered into the processor to restock pharmaceutical or medical supply items. One of the liners is then removed from the dispensing unit and is replaced with a replacement liner having a new inventory of pharmaceutical or medical supply items. Information identifying the replacement liner is also entered into the processor.

    Abstract: A method of gathering, analyzing, and reporting data about commercial fish stocks and fisheries. Under this method, individual commercial fishermen use a device specific to the type of fishing being done to record the number of fish brought aboard, the number kept or released, the reason for release, the date, time, and location of the catch, and the fishery conditions, such as water temperature, depth, and salinity at the time that fish are brought aboard the fishing vessel. The individual fishermen transfer the data, typically via telephone link, to a central data repository, or to a receiving station when the data is transferred to the central data repository at a later time. The data is encrypted during transfer and placed in fisherman files, each fisherman having his own, restricted-access file. Data from all individual fishermen, as well as from other sources, are placed in a composite data pool to be used as source data for a general fishery database on fishstocks and fisheries.

    Abstract: The invention provides exemplary dispensing systems and methods for dispensing medical supply items. According to one exemplary method, a dispensing cabinet is provided having a processor. An auxiliary storage location is also provided and is separate from the dispensing cabinet. The auxiliary storage location has at least one door and at least one lock to lock the door, with the lock being operable upon receipt of a signal from the processor. Further, the auxiliary storage location holds at least one medical supply item. User identification information and charge account information are entered into the processor to cause the processor to send a signal to unlock the lock. An item sensor on the dispensing cabinet is actuated to record removal of the medical supply item from the auxiliary storage location. The medical supply item is then removed from the auxiliary storage location.

    Abstract: The invention provides an exemplary method for dispensing medical supply or pharmaceutical items from a dispensing unit which comprises a processor and a cabinet having a plurality of drawers which are lockable within the cabinet by a locking mechanism. The drawers include a plurality of bins for holding the pharmaceutical or medical supply items, with at least some of the bins having lids equipped with a sensor that communicates with the processor to indicate when the lid is lifted. Further, the processor includes a record of the items held within each drawer and which items may be accessed by specific users or user types. According to the method, user identification information is entered into the processor to identify a user that is requesting access to one of the pharmaceutical or medical supply items held in the dispensing unit.

    Abstract: A device and method for engaging the fill valve assembly in a water closet and maintaining the fill valve assembly in a closed condition regardless to the level of water in the flush tank of the water closet. The device includes two suspension elements that engage the walls of the flush tank on either side of the float lever portion of the fill valve assembly. A flexible element extends between the two suspension elements, wherein the flexible element passes under the float lever as extends from one suspension element to the other. As the flexible element is pulled taut, the flexible element abuts against the float lever and upwardly biases the float lever. The upward bias that is applied to the float lever causes the fill valve assembly to close. The upward bias also prevents the fill valve assembly from leaving its closed configuration regardless to the level of water in the flush tank.

According to one aspect of the invention, a dispensing unit is provided having an enclosure with an interior. A plurality of storage locations are distributed over a surface of the enclosure. Sensors associated with at least some of the individual storage locations are provided. The unit further includes a multiplicity of receptacles disposed within at least some of the storage locations. Sensors associated with at least some of the individual receptacles are provided. A processor is disposed on the enclosure and connected to receive signals from the storage location-associated sensors and the receptacle-associated sensors.

    Abstract: An apparatus for accelerating heavy ions to high energies and directing the accelerated ions at a target comprises a source of singly ionized heavy ions of an element or compound of greater than 100 atomic mass units, means for accelerating the heavy ions, a storage ring for accumulating the accelerated heavy ions and switching means for switching the heavy ions from the storage ring to strike a target substantially simultaneously from a plurality of directions. In a particular embodiment the heavy ion that is accelerated is singly ionized hydrogen iodide. After acceleration, if the beam is of molecular ions, the ions are dissociated to leave an accelerated singly ionized atomic ion in a beam. Extraction of the beam may be accomplished by stripping all the electrons from the atomic ion to switch the beam from the storage ring by bending it in magnetic field of the storage ring.
