  • Patent number: 5594300
Abstract: The present invention provides an improvement in a color picture tube having a tensioned mask and support frame assembly. Each of the mask and the support frame is rectangular and has two long sides that parallel a central major axis thereof and two short sides that parallel a central minor axis thereof. The mask has a substantially cylindrical contour, being curved along the major axis and straight along the minor axis. The improvement comprises the frame including two first members that parallel the major axis and two second members, attached to the ends of the first members, that parallel the minor axis. Each of the first members includes a rigid section and a compliant section cantilevered from the rigid section. The mask is attached to the distal ends of the cantilevered compliant sections.

  • Patent number: 5309189
Abstract: The present invention is an improvement in a method of screening a line screen slit mask color picture tube that includes coating a faceplate panel of the tube with a photosensitive material, inserting a slit shadow mask into the panel and exposing the photosensitive material by passing light from a line light source through a misregister correction lens and through the slits of the mask. The improvement comprises positioning a skew correction lens between the line light source and the misregister correction lens during exposure of the photosensitive material. The skew correction lens has a surface with a general overall cylindrical shape with deviations from the cylindrical shape being in the four corners of the skew correction lens.

  • Patent number: 5021707
Abstract: An improved color picture tube includes a rectangular faceplate panel having two long sides and two short sides. A rectangular shadow mask is suspended at its four corners by support means within the panel adjacent to a cathodoluminescent screen located on the panel. The tube has three principal axes that are mutually orthogonal to each other. These axes include a longitudinal axis which extends through the center of the tube perpendicularly to the center of the panel, a major axis which passes through the center of the panel paralleling the long sides of the panel, and a minor axis which passes through the center of the panel paralleling the short sides of the panel. Each of the support means has a central support axis. The improvement comprises the two support axes on each side of the minor axis crossing a plane containing the longitudinal and major axes at a point located between the minor axis and a short side of the panel.

  • Patent number: 4748371
Abstract: A cathode-ray tube includes a shadow mask having an array of apertures mounted adjacent a substantially rectangular faceplate panel with curvature along major and minor axes orthogonal to each other and to a central longitudinal axis passing through the center of the faceplate panel. The shadow mask has a border of varying width disposed between the perimeter of the apertured array and a bend line adjoining a peripheral mask skirt which substantially parallels the central axis and is supported by a shadow-mask frame oriented orthogonally to the central axis. The width of the border is narrow at the major axis, being no greater than five percent of the distance from the minor axis to the bend line along the major axis.

  • Patent number: 4634247
Abstract: The present invention is an improvement in a method of screening a line screen slit mask color picture tube. Such method includes coating a faceplate panel of the tube with a photosensitive material, inserting a slit shadow mask into the panel and exposing the photosensitive material by passing light from a line light source through the slits of the mask. Such method further comprises positioning a generally cylindrical shaped lens between the line light source and the faceplate panel during exposure of the photosensitive material. The longitudinal axis of the lens is oriented perpendicular to the longitudinal axis of the line light source. The improvement comprises moving both the faceplate panel and the cylindrical shaped lens in synchronization in a direction parallel to the line light source during the exposing step.
