  • Patent number: 4259742
Abstract: A system for reducing noise transients in electrical carrier signals, carried simultaneously over two separate channels, that are identical in their program component but differ in transient noise content, comprising means for comparing noise transients in the respective channels and for transmitting the electrical sum of the two channels unless the noise transients of the two channels differ by more than a selectable threshold amount, in which case only the carrier signal with the lesser noise transient is transmitted.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: November 6, 1978
Date of Patent: March 31, 1981
Inventors: Richard C. Burns, Thomas N. Packard
  • Patent number: 4233403
Abstract: Disclosed herein are a method and a reagent test kit, both using an improved substrate to measure the amylase content of a sample. The substrate used is a glycoside consisting of a defined polysaccharide glycosyl residue and a substituted aromatic radical attached to the terminal unit of the glycoside. When detached from the polysaccharide, the aglycone exhibits a different spectral absorbance than the substrate.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: February 27, 1978
Date of Patent: November 11, 1980
Assignee: E. I. Du Pont de Nemours and Company
Inventors: Robert C. Menson, Venkatachalam Narayanswamy, Richard C. Burns
  • Patent number: 4155041
Abstract: A system for reducing noise transients in identical electrical carrier signals carried simultaneously over separate channels, comprising means for comparing the noise transients in the respective channels and for transmitting the carrier signal in the channel having the lowest noise transient. The system can comprise means for blanking at least a portion of a carrier signal whose noise transient level exceeds a predetermined value.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: May 13, 1976
Date of Patent: May 15, 1979
Inventors: Richard C. Burns, Thomas N. Packard
  • Patent number: 4151471
Abstract: A system for limiting the instantaneous value of a noise transient, by means of an electronic circuit wherein the amplitude of the total input signal being monitored is compared with a threshold value which is varied continuously according to the peak carrier signal value, and the output signal is maintained below the threshold value.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: November 4, 1977
Date of Patent: April 24, 1979
Inventors: Thomas N. Packard, Richard C. Burns
  • Patent number: 4145527
Abstract: Nitroaromatic derivatives of glycosides such as maltotetraose, maltopentaose and maltohexaose are described. These compounds are useful as standard substrates for the assay of .alpha.-amylase either manually or automatically on suitable instruments.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: March 20, 1978
Date of Patent: March 20, 1979
Assignee: E. I. Du Pont de Nemours and Company
Inventors: Richard C. Burns, Alexander L. Johnson
