  • Patent number: 7637649
Abstract: A lamp (160) comprising: a light-emitting lamp capsule (161) arrayed about a longitudinal axis (161a); a base (162) supporting said lamp capsule (161), said base (162) including a peripheral flange (163) extending normal to said longitudinal axis 161a); and electrical contacts (164) attached to said peripheral flange for providing power to said light-emitting lamp capsule (161), said electrical contacts (164) extending from said peripheral flange (163) in a direction parallel to said longitudinal axis (161a).
    Type: Grant

    Assignee: Osram Sylvania Inc.
Inventors: Ceferino Garcia, Richard C. Laird
  • Patent number: 7541726
Abstract: A base-up incandescent lamp (10) includes a coiled-coil filament (14) that has a primary wire (18) and a secondary wire (16), the primary wire (18) comprising an overwind that overlies the secondary wire (16) and provides a lower filament temperature and, therefore, less filament sag and a concomitant longer lamp life.

  • Publication number: 20080136307
Abstract: A reversible base for a lamp can reduce the number of parts needed for differing lamp assemblies. The preferred base is an insulating body with a first receptacle for a lamp capsule including a cavity, and a second receptacle. The second receptacle is aligned in opposition to the first receptacle, being similar in size and shape. A support is positioned between an end of the first receptacle and an end of the second receptacle and extends radially from a mid-region between the first and second receptacles. The support includes a radially extending flange having a face and a sidewall. Electrical contacts are held on the support, and may be axially aligned pins extending from the face of the flange. The pins may be electrically extended for coupling in either the first or second receptacle to lamp leads.
