Patent number: 7222782Abstract: An automated banking machine (10) includes a user interface (15) and a cash dispensing mechanism (220). A fascia (12) of the machine includes a pair of horizontally disposed convex mirrors (338, 340). The mirrors are used to enable a machine user to view the rear area (343) behind the machine user. The machine can move the mirrors into operative viewing position in response to machine user input. The machine also includes lights that can be selectively directed and illuminated to reduce the risk of observation of inputs to the machine by unauthorized persons. A rear area light source focuses light away from the machine user's line of sight to the user interface but toward the rear area (343) to obscure nonuser view of machine user input to the user interface.Type: GrantFiled: July 20, 2005Date of Patent: May 29, 2007Assignee: Diebold Self-Service Systems divsion of Diebold, IncorporatedInventors: Richard C. Patent number: 6966485Abstract: An automated banking machine (10) includes a user interface (15) and a cash dispensing mechanism (220). A fascia of the machine (12) includes a pair of horizontally disposed convex mirrors (338, 340) which enables viewing an area (343) behind the user of the machine. Sensors are operative to determine when a mirror requires cleaning and to cause the mirror to be cleaned either by actuating a cleaning device and/or by contacting a remote servicer. Lights may be selectively directed and illuminated to reduce the risk of observation of inputs to the machine by unauthorized persons.Type: GrantFiled: December 17, 2003Date of Patent: November 22, 2005Assignee: Diebold Self-Service Systems division of Diebold, IncorporatedInventors: Richard C. Patent number: 6550670Abstract: An automated banking machine includes a generally one-piece polymer frame. Transaction function devices such as an input device, a display screen, and a sheet dispenser, are supported on the frame. A generally one-piece polymer body is operatively engaged relative to the frame and extends in generally surrounding relation of the input device and display screen. The body includes at least one opening such that the display screen is visible and the input device is accessible through the body.Type: GrantFiled: November 15, 1999Date of Patent: April 22, 2003Assignee: Diebold, IncorporatedInventors: Kim R. Lewis, Richard C. Lute, Jr.

Patent number: 6547464Abstract: An automated transaction machine (10) includes a thermal printing apparatus for printing account statements for a user. A paper drive (36) moves a paper web (44) from a paper roll (42) through a printer (40). After indicia is printed on the paper, the paper is cut by a cutter (37) into sheets and delivered to a user by a presenter drive (30). After paper cutting, the paper is moved a short distance in a direction opposed to the direction that the paper normally moves during printing. A paper control device (49) operates to maintain a relatively constant resistance force to movement of the web in the printing direction after the paper has been retracted. The paper control device limits application of resistance forces to below a threshold as well as sudden fluctuation of resistance forces on the paper web which may otherwise cause the paper to slip relative to the drive and cause distortion of printed indicia or damage to the web.Type: GrantFiled: November 7, 2000Date of Patent: April 15, 2003Assignee: Diebòld, IncorporatedInventors: Kim R. Lewis, Jeffrey A. Hill, Richard C. Lute, Jr.

The rollout tray includes a service opening (54) which is used to access service points on the serviceable components when the rollout tray is extended from the housing. When the tray is retracted access through the service opening is blocked.Type: GrantFiled: June 2, 1998Date of Patent: July 4, 2000Assignee: Diebold, IncorporatedInventors: Kim R. Lewis, Richard C. Lute, Jr., Terry E. Doll, Douglas A. Kovacs, Michael A. Durbin, Deborah S. Addy, James A. Zweifel

Patent number: 5590609Abstract: An envelope dispenser (50) for use in an automated teller machine includes a lockable access door (14). The door includes a slot (20), integral with its first face (16). The door is locked by the engagement of a first member (36) in a first notch portion (24) of the slot. The door is unlocked by an actuator (46) which upon the receipt of an electrical signal moves the first member into a central portion (28) of the slot. In this position the door may be manually moved to a fully open position by a user. In the open position the actuator urges the first member into a second notch portion (26), which releasably holds the door in the open position. In the open position envelopes stored in the machine may be accessed. From the open position the door can either be manually closed or automatically closed by the cessation of the electrical signal which enables a spring (44) to move the first member to the central portion of the slot.Type: GrantFiled: September 30, 1994Date of Patent: January 7, 1997Assignee: InterBoldInventors: Natarajan Ramachandran, Kim R. Lewis, Richard C. Lute, Jr.

Patent number: 5483047Abstract: An automated teller machine (10) includes a housing (12) with a top assembly (40). Rollout trays (46) are mounted in the top assembly and have components that require periodic servicing mounted thereon. An ATM fascia (18) is pivotally mounted to enable servicing of the components on the trays during servicing. The fascia is tilted upward and a technician is enabled to stand under the fascia and to selectively extend the trays to service the components thereon. As a result, the amount of clearance space that must be provided around the ATM for servicing is minimized.Type: GrantFiled: March 15, 1994Date of Patent: January 9, 1996Assignee: Inter BoldInventors: Natarajan Ramachandran, Gerald T. Sedlock, Kim R. Lewis, Charles D. Price, III, Richard C. Lute, Jr.
