  • Patent number: 5053964
Abstract: A train comprising a plurality of interconnected revenue carrying vehicles is provided. Each of the vehicles includes a controller for controlling the various sub-systems in the vehicle. When the vehicles are coupled to form a train, the controller in one of the vehicles operates as a master and controls the operation of the other vehicles in the train. The controllers in the other vehicles operate as slaves and are responsive to control signals generated by the master. Software is included in the controllers to allow the master role to be transferred between vehicles without disabling the train.

  • Patent number: 4854844
Abstract: A differential screw adjusting mechanism comprised of an externally and internally threaded adjusting nut which has a plurality of slots formed along its length. The internal threads of the adjusting nut cooperatively and threadedly engage screw threads at the end of each of the expansion rods. The rods are in turn fixed to the lip of the die via set screws or jam nuts. A spool having an internally threaded diameter and a slot along its length is engaged to the external threads of the adjusting nut. The head of the spool has a flattened portion to limit rotation of the spool when clamped in place. Thus, the slotted adjusting nut is overfit with the slotted spool. The entire assembly of spool, nut, and rod is clamped in place via a clamping arrangement affixed to the die. The tightening of the clamp serves to close the spool via the slot over the nut, and in turn, the nut, via its slots, over the rod.

  • Patent number: 4140460
Abstract: Control apparatus for automatically maintaining the desired blown tube diameter in the blown plastic film process where the blown tube is internally cooled by a gas flow into and out of the interior of the tube. A by-pass duct having a by-pass damper is provided on either the inlet or exhaust duct by-passing the inlet or exhaust duct damper respectively and this by-pass damper is controlled by tube diameter sensors. By thus controlling only a small percentage of the inlet or exhaust flow a very fine and stable control is achieved. Control apparatus is also provided to maintain the by-pass damper in its optimum operating range.

  • Patent number: 4069986
Abstract: A drive for a flying transfer winder wherein a continuously traveling web is transferred from a fully wound roll to a new core. A single winder drive motor is selectively connected to the winding cores and the motor speed is controlled by a dancer roll upstream of the winder. An auxiliary drive is provided to bring up the peripheral speed of the new core at the time of transfer to a speed which is somewhat less than the web speed. Drive means, including overrunning clutches, are provided in the winder drive and auxiliary drive to allow a smooth and controllable movement of the dancer roll during transfer of the web and transfer of control to the winder drive motor.
