  • Patent number: 9258839
Abstract: In order to re-establish a suspended RRC connection, the mobile device (101) in one example sends a connection re-establishment request message to the RAN (102) to have the suspended RRC connection re-established. The RAN node may need to attempt to retrieve the RRC connection data (either from memory or if from another network element if stored elsewhere/if the RRC connection was suspended by another RAN node) and verifies whether the RRC connection is valid. When verified, the mobile device (101) receives, in response to the message, a connection re-establishment command message from the RAN (102). In response to the message, the mobile device (101) re-establishes the RRC connection with the RAN (102), using the stored RRC connection information, and sends a connection re-establishment complete message to the RAN (102). The mobile device (101) and RAN (102) may then resume user plane data communication with each other.

  • Patent number: 9113403
Abstract: Methods and apparatus for voice domain operation are described herein. One example method includes determining that an Evolved Universal Mobile Telecommunications System (UMTS) Terrestrial Radio Access (E-UTRA) network is not preferred for voice service based on receiving a response message to a NAS message via the E-UTRA network, wherein the response message to the Non-Access Stratum (NAS) message comprises an indication that no voice service is available, storing an identification of a first public land mobile network (PLMN), wherein the first PLMN is associated with the E-UTRA network that is not preferred for voice service, and avoiding selection of a second PLMN's E-UTRA network when an identification of the second PLMN matches the identification of the first PLMN.

  • Publication number: 20150215766
Abstract: A user equipment (UE) is capable of communicating in multiple networks including a first network and a second network. The UE sends a message to the second network to activate a data connection in the second network or to register the UE in the second network. The UE includes in the message a value of a packet-switched information element that the UE has determined is to be used as opposed to a different value of the packet-switched information element that was included in a message sent by the UE to the first network to activate a data connection in the first network or to register the UE in the first network.

  • Patent number: 8937876
Abstract: A wireless network (e.g., an LTE network) may be configured to monitor a communications interface to set an inactivity timer that, in turn, sets the operating mode of a communications interface. The operating mode may include a time-domain reception pattern of the wireless device. A wireless device may monitor a communications interface that includes at least a first logical channel and a second logical channel. Based on monitoring the communications interface, a first activity state for the first logical channel may be determined and a second activity state (e.g., an activity status) for the second logical channel may be determined. An inactivity timer used by the communications interface may be set to a first value or a second value based on the first and second activity states. The battery life of a wireless device may be preserved by setting an inactivity timer responsive to how the wireless device is used.
