  • Publication number: 20140157127
Abstract: Techniques disclosed herein include systems and methods that provide a workflow-based session manager or workflow engine for a content delivery system, such as for delivering video-on-demand, streaming audio, streaming video, etc. Such techniques increase velocity and flexibility of deploying new features and services in a video delivery system. Techniques include a session management model provides a service-oriented and workflow-based approach. As a service-oriented approach, each functional session management step can be represented as a business service. As a workflow-based solution, a sequence of steps to be performed can be defined as data, rather than being hard-coded inside an application. Defined as data, steps (nodes, tasks) can then be created and changed using a graphical editor. New services can be added by defining actions for the new service, and adding a node to a given session management workflow sequence. Techniques include a workflow engine that initiates session management in realtime.

  • Publication number: 20130245245
Abstract: The present invention concerns the use of methods and compositions for the isolation of small RNA molecules (100 nucleotides or fewer), such as microRNA and siRNA molecules. Such molecules are routinely lost in commonly used isolation procedures and therefore the present invention allows for a much higher level of enrichment or isolation of these small RNA molecules.

  • Patent number: 8352620
Abstract: Displaying a network topology map may include creating a database representing objects in a network; requesting a topology map of a certain type to represent at least a portion of the network; determining from the database a set of objects corresponding to the type of the requested map; determining parameters associated with the map type; and, while the cardinality of the set is above a threshold: presenting at least one of the parameters on a display, enabling a user to specify a value or group of values for the parameter, and reducing the cardinality of the set by removing objects not matching the value or group of values specified for the parameter.

  • Publication number: 20120149088
Abstract: Methods of directly isolating nucleic acid from an embedded biological sample are provided. An emulsified digest is generated in the presence of a thermostable protease, and an additive selected from an alkylene glycol, a poly(alkylene glycol), or a block copolymer having an average Mn of 76 to 2900, or a salt or derivative or combination thereof. Nucleic acid is isolated directly from the emulsified digest. The methods eliminate the use of organic solvents such as xylene in a deparaffinization step prior to isolating nucleic acids from paraffin-embedded samples, for example.

  • Publication number: 20100299552
Abstract: A method, apparatus and computer program product for managing content sessions within a network is presented. The systems disclosed herein are able to detect a requirement to modify bandwidth usage within the network either proactively or reactively. In response, example embodiments apply an adaptive bit rate adjustment technique to the content sessions to adjust a data rate associated with each content session according to the requirement to modify bandwidth usage within the network. Example embodiments also then apply a quality of service adjustment technique to the content sessions to adjust a bandwidth allocation assigned between a client and server based upon the adaptive bandwidth adjustment technique. Application of the adaptive bit rate and quality of service adjustment techniques may be policy based. Example embodiments also may monitor a plurality of servers supporting content sessions, detect a failure at a first server and move content sessions to a second server.

  • Publication number: 20080250146
Abstract: A method for version negotiation between two entities is provided. Described in the context of communication protocol negotiation, an initiating entity proposes an initial communication protocol version to a receiving entity. In response, the receiving entity accepts the protocol version if it is within the range of its supported versions or proposes an alternative protocol version selecting to be either the highest or lowest protocol version supported by the receiving entity. This allows the receiving entity to successfully limit the number of protocol versions it supports and to communicate this restriction in any protocol setting to the initiating entity. The initiating entity then accepts the proposed alternative protocol version. If version negotiation is successful, either the accepted initial version or the accepted alternative version of the communication protocol is used for the duration of the communication session between the initiating entity and the receiving entity.

  • Patent number: 7185109
Abstract: A method and system is disclosed for automatically discovering Cisco Discovery Protocol (CDP) nodes a network in real time. The discover process transmits a signal from a network manager to a first CDP node of the network. The signal requests information regarding additional CDP nodes known to the first node. The network manger receives a response is that identifies additional CDP nodes known to the first CDP node. The transmitting and receiving steps are then repeated for each additional CDP node identified. A list containing information of all identified nodes is then stored.

  • Publication number: 20060132447
Abstract: This invention is an ergonomic method and apparatus for integrating the operation of computer keyboards and cursor control devices. It employs hand location detection to determine when the mouse hand is absent from its keyboard typing position or is present at the mouse. A detector output automatically transforms the functions of a set of keyboard keys lying under the non-mouse hand from their original actions into new actions which can include mouse clicks, keyboard shortcuts and macros. These keys usually include the home keys (a s d f, or j k l ;). The new functions are preprogrammed into this set of keys at an inactive level, and do not affect actions unless the hand position sensor detects that the mouse hand is absent from its keyboard typing position or is present at the mouse.

  • Publication number: 20060105468
Abstract: The present invention concerns methods and compositions to prepare biological samples to preserve the macromolecules in the samples. Embodiments of the invention concern the use of a soak solution that contains one or more water-miscible solvents. A sample is incubated with the soak solution to the point of saturation at a temperature above the melting temperature of the water-miscible solvent but below 0° C. The use of methods and compositions of the invention allow for subsequent preparation or analysis of the samples.
