  • Patent number: 9460071
Abstract: In a computing device that defines a rule for natural language processing of text, annotated text is selected from a first document of a plurality of annotated documents. An entity rule type is selected from a plurality of entity rule types. An argument of the selected entity rule type is identified. A value for the identified argument is randomly selected based on the selected annotated text to generate a rule instance. The generated rule instance is applied to remaining documents of the plurality of annotated documents. A rule performance measure is computed based on application of the generated rule instance. The generated rule instance and the computed rule performance measure are stored for application to other documents.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: April 21, 2015
Date of Patent: October 4, 2016
    Assignee: SAS Institute Inc.
Inventors: Viswanath Avasarala, David Styles, James Tetterton, Richard Crowell, Saratendu Sethi

  • Publication number: 20140096437
Abstract: Embodiments herein concern compositions, methods and uses for extracting target compounds from suspension cultures. In certain embodiments, suspension cultures may comprise algal cultures. In some embodiments, compositions and methods include agglomerating ground and dried biomass from a suspension culture prior to extracting target compounds from the culture.

  • Patent number: 8399239
Abstract: Embodiments herein concern compositions, methods and uses for harvesting suspension cultures or decontaminating waters. In certain embodiments, suspension microorganism cultures can comprise algal cultures. In some embodiments, harvesting suspension cultures may include using a composition capable of interacting with the culture in order to separate the culture from a liquid or media.

  • Patent number: 5707350
Abstract: A surgical instrument that includes a rigid outer member within which is disposed a hollow inner member having rigid proximal and distal ends and a region disposed between the rigid proximal and distal ends that is relieved to render such region relatively flexible. The flexible region is integral with a portion of the proximal end disposed adjacent to the flexible region. The inner member transmits force (such as torsion) applied to its proximal end to move a cutting implement disposed at its distal end and cause it to cut tissue admitted through an opening in the distal region of the outer member. In another aspect, a region of the inner member is weakened (e.g., by relieving an integral region of the member) with respect to the remainder of the inner member to cause this region to break if the force (e.g., torque) applied to the inner member exceeds a predetermined threshold.
