Publication number: 20100170496Abstract: A fireplace includes a first enclosure defining a combustion chamber and having a front that allows viewing within the combustion chamber, one or more back panels opposite the front, a plurality of side panels, a top panel, and a bottom panel. At least one of the one or more back panels and plurality of side panels includes a plurality of optically transmissive regions. A second enclosure includes a plurality of panels that are secured together to surround the plurality of side panels. A flame-generating element is disposed within the combustion chamber adjacent the bottom panel and is adapted to generate a flame. A lighting assembly between the first enclosure and the second enclosure is operable to project light onto portions of the second enclosure facing the first enclosure to passively illuminate an interior of the combustion chamber through the plurality of optically transmissive regions.Type: ApplicationFiled: January 7, 2009Publication date: July 8, 2010Applicant: HNI Technologies Inc.Inventors: Richard D. Berg, Christopher L. Wurtz

Patent number: 7726300Abstract: A fireplace including a backlighting system. The backlighting system can be positioned in a back portion of the bottom panel of the fireplace. The backlighting system includes at least one light source to shine light upon the components of the fireplace. For example, the light source can be positioned to shine light on a back panel of the fireplace. The light source of the backlighting system can be modulated depending on a state of the fireplace. For example, the light source can be turned on or off depending on whether the flame of the fireplace is on or off.Type: GrantFiled: December 17, 2007Date of Patent: June 1, 2010Assignee: HNI Technologies Inc.Inventors: David C. Patent number: 6748940Abstract: A cooking assembly for preparing food products having multiple cooking modalities is disclosed. In one embodiment of the disclosure, the cooking assembly can comprise a main body portion defining a cooking area and an adjustable burner assembly configured to provide heat to at least a portion of the cooking area. The adjustable burner assembly being positionable between a first cooking modality and a second cooking modality. The first cooking modality can provide a source of indirect heating to at least a portion of the cooking area. Conversely, the second cooking modality can provide a source of direct heating to at least a portion of the cooking area.Type: GrantFiled: June 20, 2001Date of Patent: June 15, 2004Assignee: Fire Stone Home Products, LLCInventors: Robb E. Bennett, Richard D. Berg, Eric Hawkinson

Patent number: 4814165Abstract: A solid hydrated stick for topical application containing emulsified water soluble ingredients and volatile emollients. The stick is a solid emulsion comprising by weight from 15% to 40% of a cyclic silicone, 2% to 15% of an oil, 2% to 20% of a wax, 2% to 7% of polyethylene glycol sorbitan beeswax, 10% to 40% water, and 0.1% to 40% of a cosmetically acceptable functional ingredient. The polyethylene glycol sorbitan beeswax acts as an emulsifier and contributes to the rigidity of the stick, while the silicone serves as an emollient to impart a smooth, buttery feel when the composition is applied to the skin.Type: GrantFiled: March 3, 1987Date of Patent: March 21, 1989Assignee: Kolmar Laboratories Inc.Inventors: Richard D. Patent number: 3939440Abstract: A wound resistor-capacitor network having stable frequency response over a wide frequency range (e.g., 60 cycles to 100 kilohertz), is produced by forming a pair of aligned circumferentially extending resistance paths in one of two strips of metallized dielectric film. Forming of the resistance paths is accomplished as the two metallized strips are being wound to form an R-C network roll, by removing metal from the one strip along a first line to produce a gap in the metal layer in parallel spaced relationship to an adjacent edge of the film. Subsequently, removal of metal from the first strip also is initiated along a second line spaced inward from the first line, to produce another gap in the metal layer, thereby forming an elongated first path of desired resistance between the two lines. Metal removal along the first line then is temporarily interrupted to provide a lead termination area and a current steering path at the adjacent end of the network roll, on either side of the strip midpoint.Type: GrantFiled: December 17, 1974Date of Patent: February 17, 1976Assignee: Western Electric Company, Inc.Inventors: Richard D.
