  • Patent number: 4777870
Abstract: The discharge air sweep mechanism for an air conditioner is provided with slippage in its drive linkage such that the position of the vanes can be manually adjusted when the drive motor is turned off, or if the vanes become jammed during normal air sweep operation, the drive motor can continue to operate without damage to the mechanism. In one form of linkage, frictional engagement is provided by a pair of arms that are biased together with engaged member disposed therebetween, with the engaged member being allowed to slide between the arms upon the occurrences of either of the above mentioned conditions. Vane stop means is provided to automatically recalibrate the relative positions when normal air sweep operation is resumed.

  • Patent number: 4633680
Abstract: Integrally formed with a molded plastic housing for a room air conditioner, is a pair of axially spaced walls whose inner edges closely surround the periphery of the condenser fan such that the dead air space created between the walls tends to prevent the recirculation of air around the fan periphery when the fan is in operation.

  • Patent number: 4628799
Abstract: A duct adapter for use in conjunction with an air conditioning unit is disclosed. This adapter attached to a discharge opening of a Packaged Terminal Air Conditioning unit and acts to divide the stream of conditioned air into multiple streams, one being discharged into the enclosure containing the air conditioning unit and a separate stream being discharged into an extension duct for delivery at a distant location. The extension duct is attached to a bracket fixed to the side of a through-the-wall sleeve, while the end of the extension in a slidable engagement so that the unit may slide out of the sleeve while the extension remains fixed to the sleeve.

  • Patent number: 4628800
Abstract: Apparatus for regulating air flow through a housing is disclosed. A baffle assembly including a ramp-like keeper is provided such that detents on the keeper contact the edge of the baffle to secure the baffle in position. When the baffle reaches a top position along the keeper it contacts a cam and returns to its initial position. The combination arrangement is utilized to either regulate the flow of air being discharged from the unit or to divert air between multiple outlets in the housing.

  • Patent number: 4555983
Abstract: A plastic sleeve assembly and an air conditioning unit are disclosed for mounting the air conditioning unit in a through-the-wall application. The sleeve assembly includes flange members with screw holes therethrough and standoffs about the screw holes, such that the air conditioning unit, having an L-shaped sealing flange thereon, when inserted into the sleeve and fastened thereto, causes the standoff on the flange to be in compression and not tension as the standoff makes contact with the L-shaped sealing flange when a fastener secures the air conditioner in the sleeve.

  • Patent number: 4499816
Abstract: A discharge air assembly for use in a room air conditioning unit is disclosed. The discharge air assembly includes both horizontal and vertical louvers for directing the air being discharged in any direction. The horizontal louvers are mounted in V-shaped slots defined by a vertical support member and are secured thereto by a louver retainer which via frictional fit maintains the louvers in the desired position. Additionally, control knobs mounted for sliding displacement are utilized to effect rotational displacement of the vertical air deflectors. The entire assembly is arranged as a subassembly which can be mounted with any room air unit having a discharge opening of a selected size.
