    Abstract: A method and system for controlling a fluid valve are described that avoid the effects of hysteresis. In hysteresis, the power signals associated with a valve position are different on the upstroke and downstroke. As a result, predicting the valve position can be difficult if you only know the current power signal. Instead of using upstrokes and downstrokes, a valve can momentarily be set to zero power, or a rest position when receiving a new command signal. This way the command signal is applied from a zero power or rest position, making the valve position more predictable and accurate.

    Abstract: The amount of protrusion of an end of a standard length push pin from a stationary part of a solenoid-actuated valve is measured at a certain point in the valve fabrication process. Then before the armature is assembled into the valve, a depression whose depth is based on the push pin protrusion measurement is coined into the end of the armature that is to bear against the protruding end of the push pin. When the armature is assembled, the protruding end of the push pin seats in the depression that has been formed in the end of the armature with the result that the air gap between this end of the armature and the stationary part from which the push pin protrudes is the desired thickness. The process is well-suited for automated operation so that maximum production efficiencies can be attained.

    Abstract: A dual stream thin edge orifice disk is defined as a disk having a pair of orifices positioned to direct the flow of fluid from the interior portion of a valve into two different streams. The dual streams may be parallel or typically diverge at an angle for directing the stream to two adjacent engine valves in the situation wherein the valve is an electromagnetic fuel injector for an internal combustion engine. To have the dual stream flow in a direction that is not parallel, the area of the disk surrounding the dual orifices is embossed and the orifices are positioned along the sides of the embossment between the base and the apex thereof. The manufacturing of the accurately sized orifices in the disk is accomplished by means of a progressive die. One of the stations of the die provides a coining operation on the orifice. Such coining operation is adjustable by means of a micrometer adjustment.

    Abstract: A solenoid control valve for use in adaptive braking systems has a unique armature for reducing the operating times of the valve. When the solenoid is energized, the armature moves towards a plunger mechanism which operates to open a ball valve in the inlet of the solenoid control valve. When the solenoid is de-energized, a first spring bias means operates to close the ball valve stopping the flow of the fluid from the source to a hydraulic means. The unique armature has at least one axially extending passageway from one end surface to the other and in addition has a circular groove intersecting the passageway on the top surface of the armature abutting the plunger to provide a relief means to reduce surface adhesion.

    Abstract: A bottom feed fuel injector as used in single point fuel injection systems is fabricated from sintered iron or powdered metal. This reduces secondary machining operations and therefore reduces cost of injectors. Additionally, static adjustments are capable of being made from the end of the injector opposite the discharge end. A top feed injector is described wherein several of its critical elements are molded from sintered iron or powdered metal.
